Hybrid Repairs

Get your ears checked. You should be able to hear a car coming. There is engine noise and road noise. Unless there already is a lot of noise, you should definitely hear it.

Windows rolled up ,stereo on or on the phone, yup, cant hear cars coming....maybe you drive around with the windows down, but I guarentee you when it is 110 degrees here, there arent many windows open.......

Think outside the box.

The problem isn't other drivers being able to hear hybrids. The problem is pedestrians and animals being able to hear hybrids. They are near silent when on battery, particularly since most use low rolling resistance tires. It is particularly dangerous to the blind since they don't have the option to see them.

I am not sure why there is so much hostility on this forum. I really enjoy reading and posting here but we should all really be more respectful of each other.

Having said that, a bit of info on Hybrid vehicles: rates & repairs
Rates:
I just did a quick search and found that both Travelers and Farmers do offer discounts on hybrid vehicles. Why? In general, folks that drive hybrids are a bit older & tend drive more cautiously. Thus, lowering the risk of a loss & exposure for the insurance company = lower rates. Don't get mad at me, here are the facts: Average age of hybrid owner is 55 with annual household income of over $113,000 & those that state they are considering a hybrid, average age of 43 with an average HH income of over $88,000. Repairs - I have been away from the claims world for some time so I can't really speak to the current economics of repairing a hybrid car. I do agree with the complexity issues as noted by others. I do also know that hybrids have been around for awhile now and I would guess that repair costs have come down. I have asked a good friend of mine that is a property damage manager for a large national company to give some advice on this. I will revisit when I hear back.

For now, know that there are discounts out there for hybrids & like always, I suggest you shop several companies to find the best discounts and rates.

Oh, as for the whole noise thing, we all have a duty to maintain safe distance and lookout for other cars, and so do pedestrians. In my opinion, the fact that a hybrid is quiet does not mitigate those responsibilities...
