Hello,
I'm brand new to the industry (still studying for my license) and would like to focus on the senior market, especially Med Supp. Since I am brand new I need to get some good training and/or a mentor to help me. I'm looking at Senior Solutions and I've read about them on this site. It seems to be a mixed bag except for the guy in Dallas who had a really bad time.
It is very important to me that I help people rather than just sell people. I want to make sure that Senior Solutions offers products that are beneficial to people.
I see that Frank is a great resource but I'm not sure someone so green could start out through him so I thought I'd throw this post out there. I'm concerned about being captive but I think that I cannot immediately start out as an indy, which is my ultimate goal.
I also don't want to put people in products that are not beneficial or cost effective for them. I tried to figure out which companies Penn Life uses on the IL website but I can't find where this info is located. I made it as far as the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation but don't know where to look from there. I did, however, find a great brochure: Medicare Supp. Premium Comparison Guide which I can use to help educate myself.
Once again I'm working on the avenues suggested in various threads, however, I believe all the reading in the world will not be as effective as having a mentor/trainer of some type.
I plan on working, working, working to become a knowledgeable asset to my potential customers. I study this website and I've learned so much. Everyone says don't be a captive but most started out that way. It appears I have no choice at the beginning. How do I make sure I don't get bit when I leave and I can't sell what I had before?
Is there another company I should try to go after? I'd really like to work with a seasoned independent to mentor me in the senior market but I don't know where to find someone locally. Everyone seems to be calling Frank and I didn't want to put him on the spot without putting this out there first.
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise. I hope to provide expertise to others newbies later in my career.
