It Does Not Look Good for Agents Selling Medicare Supplements.

Re: It Does Not Look Good for Agents Selling Medicare Supplements

Frank,

Have you spoken with any of your contacts at the insurance companies? Do you know what they plan to do about commissions?

Re: It Does Not Look Good for Agents Selling Medicare Supplements

Exactly! The sky is not falling nor is it going to. Med Supps are unique unto themselves and are not going to be effected.

I'm looking at the sky over Missouri and it is still where it is suppose to be. However, for those who believe it is falling I suggest that the leave the Med Supp market immediately. Especially if they live in Missouri. :D

I have nothing to gain by any of this being true, in fact I have much to lose, just as you do.

It appears from the wording of the Bill, that the 80% to 85% rule applies to all private health plans, but if you think otherwise, please post the part of the Bill that says Medicare supplement insurance plans are exempt ? Or that the new 80% to 85% rule only applies to under aged 65 private health plans ?

I hope I am wrong, believe me, but from what I have read, and from what I have been told by people who understand Insurance Laws better than me, it is worded to apply to all private health Plans, including medicare supplements.

The sky is not falling yet, but it could. No one really knows if medsupps are included or not. Its all speculation at this point Im still working and selling them, and when Jan 1 2011 rules around we will see what happens.
After that the world will end in 2012 anyway.....

We DO KNOW that Med Supps are NOT included. It isn't just speculation. It is an ugly rumor fueled by half truths and only part information.

If you believe that Med Supp commissions are going to tank then you probably have already started working on your "bucket list" for 2012. :D

Commissions are going to remain where they are. The rumor started based on only partial information and opinion, not on well researched facts.

My thought when I read that first post in this thread was "I wonder if that Jack guy is one of Jodi's many shill nics. And now we have Jodi posting here pretending to be a friend of "Franks"!! I smell a rat! I like to look for motive and who would have better motive to take shots at the medicare agents then a life guy? I guarantee every sane agent out there that anybody in here claiming they have inside information on how this is going to play out just 2 days after the passing of that bill is full of it!:1arghh:

Hey Frank, starting next year (if this all goes through) there will be a free wellnesss check up for Medicare beneficiaries with no copay or deductible. Some people that I've brought up Plan N to have said they only go to the doctor usually once a year, they didn't want a plan that would have the $155 deductible. This might help out with that objection

Someone with a great deal of knowledge should have made all of the insurance agents aware of what was possibly going to happen BEFORE the bill was signed.

Who is looking out for the agents?

Re: It Does Not Look Good for Agents Selling Medicare Supplements

.Who is looking out for the agents?

We are on our own same as it ever was. Of course if this thing does go south you better believe that all the MGA's and FMO's who have vested interests in seeing us out there selling will be the last people to give us a heads up that the jig is up. The insurance companies will be the same way and will tell us what they are up to about 2 weeks before they do it. I love Mutual Of Omaha but any agent that has dealt with them knows their mode of operation is to tell us whats going down about 5 minutes before it happens. MOO is the same way with their MGA's and home office employees as well. None of us except a few big shots at the top of the pyramid in the home office will know until the last minute what the insurance companies plan to do. If you are a big shot at Mutual Of Omaha and you leak a long term marketing strategy out to anyone and get caught you will be shown to the door by a security guard.:1arghh:

Jack, I'm not busting your ass, honest.

Medicare Supplement policies are not included because they are unique unto themselves and do not fall under the definition of private health plans. The verbiage does not specifically exclude Med Supps because they are not included in the definition of private health plans therefore there is no reason to specifically state that they are excluded.

Re: It Does Not Look Good for Agents Selling Medicare Supplements

Ive seen medsupps referred to as "Private Insurance Policies"

Straight from CMS website...
"A Medigap policy is health insurance sold by private insurance companies to fill the "gaps" in Original Medicare Plan coverage."
