Lead Questions

Been at it for 5 weeks and averaging 1850 a week AP off 25 leads a week. How am I doing? Also is paying 20-25 a lead the norm when the leads are over two months old? Seem only 4 or 5 of the leads even remotely remember mailing the card. I have run into people who have died and several boarded up houses in the hood. Wasting time and gas chasing people that are never home or have disconnected phones. Is this just the way final expense is? There has to be a better way. I love the job but lead costs and travel costs mixed with "potential" charge backs and it seems like at some point down the road unless you are writing 3k a week AP you are dead in the water. I am now looking to do final expense one or two days a week when I am off from my ft job. I plan on cold calling lists I bought online. Now that I dont have to worry about all the costs involved I think my profit margin will be better. I really would like to get back into it full time down the road but I have to find a better way. That way may or may not be out there. Thanks for your help and let me just say this forum is awesome and has helped me more then anything in my insurance adventures.

You probably need to explore better areas to drop leads in.

The real ghetto areas are some of the worst. Yes, they need coverage. No, they don't have an account. Best for the debit market to work.

My advice: Look for working class areas that aren't dirt poor, but aren't solid middle class, either.

My best areas to prospect are a large working class town where a multitude of manufacturing plants are located, and the black working-class neighborhoods in town.

Ran leads in the ghetto once and that was a huge waste of time and energy. Which sounds like what you're experiencing as well.

Otherwise, walking the streets or cold calling can work, too, I hear.

My experience is different than Reardon's. I love the projects. My best clients come from the projects and I get more referrals from the projects.

I do not like to work the middle class and don't have much luck there.

This week I had a good/bad week. I was only able to make 7 appointments from my leads. I did do some doorknocking in the spare time, but had no luck at all with that part of the week.

I did write 8 applications this week. That's the good. The total AP was only a little over $2800. That's the bad. But, that is just how it is. Some weeks I will write only 3 apps and have over $4000 AP.

Tou seem to using a whole lot of leads to write less than $2000 per week, but, if you are new that's not such a bad percentage.

The easy weeks are the one where I write $7000 to $8000 AP. Everything just seems to fall into place. The hard weeks are the ones that it is a chore to come up with $2000 AP.

Working the FE market is both rewarding and challenging.

GOForBroker,

I am new at this as well. You are writing 1850 a week? What are your total expenses per week? Are yo just doing mail outs? Just trying to get my head round everything. My partner and i tried telearketing leads but I think from here on out it is going to be door knocking, mail outs and cold calls. Just getting ready to buy my first list from a member on here.

Did you guys both miss that he's paying $25 per lead for 4 month old leads?

It may not be the area as much as someone is screwing you over on leads.

Why are you not doing your own drops and getting fresh new leads?

GoForBroker,

I am just getting started as well. So please bare with me. How are you getting your leads? Are you just doing mail outs? I just got my license but I have been helping out my partner and we tried telemarketing leads but I think from now on its mailouts through Monumental, door knocks and cold calls from a list we are getting through a fellow member. If you are doing 1850 a week isn't that 7400 a month in commissions and thats not enough?

JDeasy, you seem to be a legend around here and well respected by the few people I have talked to. How much do pay for your leads? And please forgive me but you are not independent correct. What are your total marketing costs per month?

I am independent. I partner with EFES for my leads. I am at the best lead costs that is available thru EFES and that's $11 per lead. I normally get 15 leads per week or 60 per month. That would be $660/mo in lead costs. Sometimes I don't get that many. In March I only got 43 leads. I was in New Orleans for 5 days so I didn't take my normal amount.

I've been doing this a while. One can't base their expectations on what I do. There was a time when I would have needed twice the number of leads I get now to get the same production.

You can just buy leads from EFES or do they take cut? I am trying to figure out the best way to do this. I did not like the telemarketed leads. I know I have a lot to learn but I am fortunate enough to have the time and money to do it right.
