Maybe We Should Start Suing?

The government & the insurance companies will be replacing our positions with low-paid, non licensed "navigators". They have agents that are licensed already in place to do the job a navigator will do and then some.

Good luck on solving this politically...we've seen how that works. BTW, what lobby group or PAC will represent us (the agents) in this so-called "political answer"? The answer is "no one" as we have no allies or power because we never made the effort.

What makes you think they'll be low-paid? We already know that as an employer with over 200 EE's that they'll be offering health care that is mostly paid for, and it will be almost impossible to get fired.

Bingo. Sounds like it is time to organize a group that truly represents agents. Why not start locally, you really are passionate about this.

Great, why don't you and others help me? I'm passionate about this because I have worked hard for what I have and don't want to loose it. I'm surprised others don't feel the same way.

Back in the late 80's our firm tried to organize agents so that we would have more say in the contracts we sign with carriers. We were tired of having the insurance companies change their contracts at will without any say from the other party to the contract (i.e agents).

We had a lot of interest from many agents in my area. But when it came time to do the work, put some money towards the cause and sign your name to something, everyone backed out and said that they "didn't want to get involved". I'm not doing that again.

BUT, if others feel the same way I do and are willing to do some work, put your name to something and contribute money to the effort, then I would be happy to take it seriously. What do you say VolAgent?

I don't mind helping, but I'm not an organizer. You find someone to run the TN chapter, and I'll do what I can to help.

After looking at the current law (regardless if it is repealed or not)
Can anyone explain to me why anyone who is currently healthy would not benefit from dropping there current health insurance plan and purchasing a 1 yr temp policy and add a critical illness policy just in case.
I'm looking for answers for my clients going through these ridicules rate increases and I just have to ask why? We only have two years to go before guaranteed issue and a good temp policy is HIPPA eligible so upon termination they client could go to the state plans it they were no longer insurable and it would only be for a year anyway.
Just a thought can't wait for the feedback

If you or they are acting on the assumption that you can patch things together somehow and make it until full Obamacare kicks in to get a better rate then that remains to be seen. There are nothing but rate increases as far as the eye can see with or without Obamacare. If the government does not allow rate increases but provider costs continue to rise then you are looking at carriers pulling out of the business.

Not trying to be negative. It is just that Obamacare eventually will cause many good agents such as yourself to try to make chickensoup out of chickenshiite in an attemp to serve their clients. I know in my state people such as myself will not even frig around with trying to pretty up the under 65 market. The solutions are ugly and they end out hating you just for telling them about their alternatives or lack thereof. Whereas with the medicare products you often make a friend and are able to help them rather than just traumatize them and leave them helpless. Of course, I am already in a guaranteed issue state so it is ugly already but coming to your neighborhood soon.

Long winded way of saying that you will need to know when you have cases where you are piling sandbags against the tide. The system is going to get much worse under obamcare before it gets better. Lots of clients out their following a strategy of going without until Obamacare kicks in and everything is affordable. Remains to be seen.
