Well imagine this - instead of the ERD being uploaded it instead sends a signal that only the police can hone in on - so every time you get in your car your entire trip is logged and stored in a police database.

If you want to put on the tin foil hat, the gov't reads the signal and stores every moment from the time you put your key in the ignition.

This is a very difficult issue, on the one hand you don't want to have a big brother state, on the other it would be nice to be able to track criminals. But where do you draw the line?
