No GI with Columbian

Gerber GI has been on the market 5-7 yrs. Outside a rate increase to pay renewals its been stable. They buffer by paying low and as earned, and no marketing material, etc

This should be no surprise.

Gerber is next, followed by AIG.

Exploiting a niche ruins a product line.

So if you don't have healthy people applying a GI product is nearly impossible to make profitable long term.
I've been surprised that Gerber has hung in there with it as long as they have. They must have something figured out. But at the same time, I seem to have noticed an increase in emails promoting their other products. They may have hoped that by opening the GI to brokers, they'd get additional business from them for the other lines. I doubt that it's worked out that way. It wouldn't surprise me if they kept the product going as a direct to consumer product, but shut down the broker line.

AIG never had a GI available when I was a career agent with AGLA, so I was surprised that they got into GI at all. They're also kind of a pain to deal with on this product. So, you may be right about them.

I'll be sad if it comes down to no GI options. But I've spent many years without it, so it wouldn't be the end of the world.

(Of course if Gerber and AIG both exit, I'll be scrambling to find a replacement. Just like everybody else!)

Gerber GI has been around to agents since at least 1986. They used to offer conventions. I won their trip in 1989. Gi business is very risky business when agents write it as its all sick people vs direct to consumer getting some healthy people.

AGLA had one when I went back with them in 2004... They pulled it around 2006.

I left them in 2003. I'm imagining they said, "OK, he's gone! Let's go ahead and release it now!" Even funnier is that in 2006 I was talking with the district manager here about going back to them. I didn't go back, but maybe they heard that I was thinking about it, so they pulled it??!!! :twitchy:
