Perfect Example Of Why You Should Door Knock Your Leads

I had bought that book "Fanatical Prospecting" and, if you were focusing on calling on businesses, making calls makes perfect sense. Every business picks up the phone - even if they have caller ID.

But for residential calling... forget it. People don't pick up the phone unless you're already a contact in their phone (generally).

I just had a chat with @DHK about this. I decided to increase the efficiency of my prospecting by getting a dialer and a list. Been at it two days, and brother, I feel unemployed! Nothing beats walking into to businesses or knocking on doors.
I was trained to go door to door. I got out of the business after 3 years to try other stuff.

When I got back into the business about 10 years later, to my horror they were telemarketing out of the phone book. After a while you'll get good at it. Just close your eyes and pretend you're at their door.

The problem is lack of pick ups, as per DHK's comment:

For example, here is my last hour and a few minutes from today:

I did not talk to 63 persons. I listened to 62 answering machines and talked to one person who wasn't the contact listed with the number. I never got his name but he sure wasn't a Carolyn (no cracks from you Monkey!)

2 DNC requests were me making the decision to mark them as such since both of those were businesses and the person answering was just a receptionist. I don't have anything against receptionists, but it was a weird way to prospect trying to get an appointment with the receptionist.

The "talk time" is greatly overstated. One complaint I'd have against th Sales Dialer system is that though I would manually disconnect from the answering machines, there was often quite alg between the time I hit the disconnect button and the call would actually drop.

I'm running FE Leads the rest of the week, but next week I think I will go back to the doors.

Over half of houses don't have a landline. Probably 80% or more of the houses that have a landline are on the DNC list. As you've found, most of the #'s you call screen the calls and let the answerring machine take the call. Most of the ones that answer are either lonely, or they don't seak English. That's why I've been saying for sometime that door knocking will be making a comeback.

You never know anymore, although I know a guy named Carroll.

Another weapon against the door knocker is the dreaded video door bell. I'm starting to run into them much more frequently and they never ever answer the door. They only cost $175. As more and more agents turn away from the phones as few answer more will door knock. I'm already getting screeners at the door not letting me talk to the person asking if this is life insurance. I tell them its about the extra benefits they sent off more info on. I really think as mass saturation continues you'll have to get more creative in the future . Ramiz's model is good because there inbound calls.

I should have said "you're unemployed looking for work". That's what being self employed is.

A business owner wakes up and already had someone else do the grunt work of setting appointments.
No, I am employed going about my work.. Even when I had staff, I was still "self employed" and so are you unless you work at the direction of someone else.. You are trying your best to make yourself out as something you are not and to belittle those that use a different business model than the one you use.. BTW, some of the most successful people in this business were actually employee's of captive and semi-captive companies such as New York Life; Metropolitan etc.
