Pregnant & Uninsured?

.it all depends on who answers the phone at hc.gov. An SEP is going to be whatever they say it is.

And agents have to compete with this.

That's in addition to the govt funding for navigators, enroller's, etc.

And here we go with the "two types". I don't compete with call centers. And either do you. If people don't see that I provide value over an 800 number, then they can call the 800 number :)

If pregnancy is not a SEP, and the app was done online, not sure what question would trigger a SEP. Not done after 3/15.
Not aware of any other situation in the household that would trigger a SEP.
May not be able to tell, as any redo of an app often wipes out previous answers.

"The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has denied a request from Democrats to create a special open enrollment period under the Affordable Care Act for women when they find out they are pregnant.

In a response to the March letter sent by Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee ranking member Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) with 36 signatures, HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell said the agency does not have "the legal authority to establish pregnancy as an exceptional circumstance" to create a special enrollment period.""

Yet they have the authority to create other SEP's? And exemptions?

Generally, yes, but when it specifically comes to pregnancy, no.

Pregnancy isn't an "exceptional circumstance" by any definition.

Not to mention, the adverse selection opportunity a rule like this creates.

Since when does any of that stop the government from doing things? Especially unintended consequences like adverse selection. I'm not arguing for an exception for pregnancy. Just stating that they have created so many new rules after the fact that this isn't any different.

Ray, the entire Obamacare concept is adverse selection. Why let something like pregnancy put a halt to things?

Even an *** will find a bridge they're not dumb enough to jump off.

If you ask me, a pregnancy SEP is that line in the sand they're not dumb enough to cross. For many people, pregnancy is the most expensive medical expense they have; letting people go on just for the pregnancy period is too ripe for abuse.
