Scanning Your Documents

back to the fujitsu scanner...i think I may make the $400 investment but I'm also interested in scanning in drivers licenses...it may come in handy...do you know if it will allow for drivers license or has the nooks to accept an id card?

when i sold my car to carmax they had a pretty fast scanner and it allowed for id cards...I'm not sure if it would be a deal breaker for me if it didnt have it...but would instantly purchased if it did.

I have the Fujitsu SnapScan S510. I just tried my DL. It is too thick

I had the same problem with mine, 1 file for each page. After many attempts I figured out if I start the scan with the software that came with the printer (hp solutions)
click scan documents
click scan documents to pdf
click scan
on the next page there is a check mark for 'create one file for one page' make sure it is unchecked.
Initially, I was putting the paper in and hitting the scan button on the printer, which is fine for one sheet :) but not multiples.

Hope this helps,
Jim

I have a basic HP Photosmart Printer/Scanner. I have not had much of a need to scan up to this point. When I use the scanner feature it looks like it will only print and save one page at a time so if I want to print a five page document, then I actually have 5 separate files. Can someone tell me if I am doing something wrong. If I am correct, then I will look for a better scanner with the features I need. Just being able to save one page docs is a big pain.

If your current scanner scans to slow, make sure you are scanning B&W, 200dpi (okay, I do 300 dpi).

This does 2 things:
- Makes the scans go MUCH quicker
- Keeps the file size reasonable, but leaves the legibility very good.

Most of the time people complain about scanning speeds, they are scanning in color, which for document retention is not necessary at all.

ron van d that sounds like bad news but looking at the fujitsu sight it shows a picture of an id card for the s1300 and the s1500 on their product page...maybe newer version can do it?

you all think the extra money for the s1500 is worth it over the s1300? the s1300 is in the 250 range and seems relatively reasonable.

*edit* the lack of twain drivers is putting me away...thinking of going with the epson pro-gts50

im thinking for longevity and storage size it will be better in the longrun...shame fujitsu won't add those drivers.

I have a Brother MFC black and white laser printer/fax/scanner. It works really well. It has an auto feeder tray but for things like drivers licenses it also has a flatbed scanner. The software that comes with it works very well for scanning and allows various file formats including scan to PDF which is what I use. It can be networked with several computers.

The newer versions in the price range I paid ($350ish) include duplex printing and wireless networking. But I think you can get one that does pretty much everything mine does for about $200 now.

I've been using it for over 5 years with no problems at all. Very dependable.

EDIT: I just went back and noticed the OP was looking for a duplex scanner. I know the new Brothers are duplex printers but not sure about scanners. I guess check out their website.

ARAM...the brother MFC-7860DW looks like a good all in one in the price range were comparing (stand alone scanners) doesnt mention anything about duplex scanning however. Looks like everything else is great though ..wireless networking, twain drivers, ocr, and b/w laser's are usually good deals.

Only the top-end all in ones of any brand do actual duplex scanning and printing. Many will say "automatic 2-sided printing" but this is NOT the same as duplexing.
