Scratch/Reimbursing

Thanks for further opinions.

The driver has not been very communicative. She said she would fax the estimate, but she did not. She does not want to use email or text (claims she is not good with it). She is old, but email, come on!

I feel like she may be double dipping. May have already filed a claim, waiting to see if she can get paid or denied?

Just in case I settle with her, do you guys have sample signed release letter? I should be notified if contacted her or my insurance right? Not sure how long that takes. Hopefully I do not pay her and also get stuck with insurance bill

She plenty of such scratches on the rest of the bumper, when i asked about them, she said she been indemnified, I should have asked at that time cost for those fixes. Moot point now.

thanks

Don't pay her a dime. If she's been paid on those scratches and nothing significant has changed, the claim will be denied.

What kind of auto, what year, what shape is the auto. If it is a basic color, it could be blended. If it is pearl white, or a medal flake type color, the panel or whole car may need painting!!! I used to repair chips and scratches, for car dealers, If it was a basic color, it could be repaired for 150-200.

It is 1996 Mercedes E320. I was told color is champaigne, beige or shiny offwhite.

thanks for color estimate b61mack

A 96! just offer her 200-300, if she says no, turn it in to your insurance co. If they say it is under 500, it won't go against you. Also if the bumper has other issues, that would lower the cost.,

Why even offer her anything? It's just a shake down.

Ya, I wouldn't offer her any money. She's just trying to cash in on your minor incident. Tell her to go ahead and file a claim with her insurance company. Chances are she won't even do that because she doesn't actually want it fixed and knows that she won't get the same kind of money out of an insurance company as she thinks she can out of you.

Don't pay her a dime and don't even talk to her anymore done deal. If the ins co is dumb enough let them pay her not you, that's why you pay for insurance don't worry about your rate going up.

Seriously, $600 isn't a lot of money to fix a scratch on a bumper of a Mercedes. Can you do it for less? Maybe. Can you do it for more? Sure.

Let the insurance company deal with it. They will pay book rate to get it done and it will be taken care of. It will be more than $250, maybe more than the $600 even, but it will be done.

Most states, not all, have a payout threshold before it has any real impact on your rates with auto claims.

And by the way, you are REQUIRED to provide your insurance info at the scene of an accident. Its not a mistake to provide it, you need to do it. Rarely will police come to a minor accident like this anymore, they will tell you to file the report online yourself, which you can probably still do.

If she won't provide estimates or anything else, forget about her and be done with it. You don't even have to call your carrier if you are not filing the claim. That would be her responsibility (maybe she is good with telephones, rotary style). Let her handle it if she wants to pursue it. If she does, the carrier will have an adjuster call you and get the details and that will likely be the last you hear of it.
