Sebelius Concedes Reform Could Raise Premiums

I read the comments for about the first week, and it's a wasteland of intellect. The biggest hope they cling to is that somehow making the system more expensive in every other facet is okay, because millions of uninsured, profitable, young healthy people are going to sign up and make it so not only do premiums not rise, but go down. They hold this belief so close that if in 8 months that isn't reality, it's because the insurance companies are greedy (nevermind MLR.)

That's why I think HHS will FIND a way to make Non-Major Medical plans not worth selling. Even though the subsidy creek will run dry faster, Sebelius has promised her bosses that 75% of the nation's uninsured (who are legal citizens) will be covered by a Major Medical within 24 months of 1/1/2014.

The morons (oops...officials) Weee Da People voted into office are now working hard to stop insurance companies from "gaming" the system by extending current policy renewals beyond 2013.

They are determined to ensure that the electorate's premiums increase as much as possible in 2014. :skeptical:

I'm confused. These people like their plans, and are trying to keep them.

Where have I heard those words before?

I think the article is great. It confirms these insurance companies have found a valid "loophole", and makes me more comfortable selling those companies that are promising the extension to 12/14'. It looks like it will be a state by state situation, with the lefty states playing dictator. I'm looking forward to my summer sales season

Kathleen Sebelius was back before a Congressional committee today. Last year she correctly stated that 2014 premiums will be higher than 2013. Now she's saying that 2015 premiums will be higher than 2014, but that many millions of people now have "affordable coverage". When asked about how many "enrollees" have paid their premiums? "I don't know that number". When asked how many enrollees didn't have health insurance prior to 2014..."I don't know that number".

Wow. I like that logic.

Before Health Care Reform, (in 2013) the premiums were unaffordable.

She agreed that 2014 premiums are higher

She says 2015 premiums will be higher yet.

But at least "many millions of people now have AFFORDABLE coverage".

Say what?

This is like your wife going out shopping. She comes back and says "I saved us $200!" When you ask how, she says that she bought $1000 of shoes for $800 since there was a sale.

Such a crock.
