Subsidies

The Columbus, Ohio residents in this article are eagerly looking forward to the Subsidy dollars. But I wonder how many of them will actually sign on the dotted line and finally buy health insurance? The lady earning $12,000 a year will have to pay half her income for Out-of-Pocket medical costs, yet she's eagerly looking forward to it? Yeah...right. Of course she is!

""I have back problems and arthritis, but mostly we're pretty healthy," Mrs. McKinney said."

Ohio is a funny state. As Joe (TexIns) and he'll fill you in!

We're used to low rates and no mandates. No we have plenty of mandates and rates that aren't quite as low.

Of course, the Dispatch simply highlighted a few of the persons they interviewed.

What articles like this miss, is that the after subsidized cost is higher than the current market in a majority of states. So, many people will be paying more, even after a subsidy.

The other problem is the pure wealth redistribution scheme. People are finally admitting what it is, but they don't see that the low/middle income are still paying for it too through lower FSA maximums, and no OTC rx from HSA, and premium taxes, the penalty, tanning taxes, cadillac tax, medical device tax, reduced hours, inflation in goods sold due to rising employer group plan costs, etc etc.

We are all paying for this puppy, with the brunt on the higher income defined as 400% FPL

Obamacare: Subsidies, not rate shocks.

Ann wishes she had the answer! I am working on a case very similar to that. My group renews in November, but their PEO document renews 12/31/2014 thankfully. If you find the answer, let me know what it is!

Well the answer I received from a colored company was, not only reporting has been delayed they say no group has to offer coverage in 2014. This is just not what I've been reading, but I also know some in the PEO biz that have planned document and say they are not taking over the smaller companies in their PEO and they can remain on their own group with whoever their respective agent is. So the particular group I was speaking of I will know tomorrow (after they ask if they're pretaxed) if I can take people off and place on individual. Most out of the 30 will qualify for subsidy.

Attestation that consumers will have to "accept" to get the APTC. The last sentence is the kicker:

I missed a BIG thing on this, never knew it was a ACA requirement before.....

If I'm married at the end of [coverage year], I must file a joint income tax return with my spouse.

People used to have the option of filing head of household instead. This worked in many individuals favor by letting them claim the Earned income credit. Requiring them to file joint will eliminate this option in some cases for 'blended' families, which heck, most are nowadays.

I've never been a fan of the Earned Income tax credit (didn't think the IRS was the place to issue welfare) and I've never been a fan of the way people abuse this, so I guess I like this change, but, it seems to hurt the very people ACA is designed to help.
