The Current State Of ObamaCare - ACA

4-29-2014

HHS/CMS officials confirmed (on Friday afternoon, of course) that they have fallen way behind in verifying enrollment numbers, calculating subsidies accurately, paying insurers properly, etc..

However, the technology to perform these tasks "should" be up and functional at some point this summer. At that time there will be a major reconciliation event that will generate massive government payments to some insurers and massive clawback of over-payments from others.

Can anyone believe this continuing nightmare that is costing us billions.

Rick you're being very nasty and hateful. I have talked at great length about the people that are being helped by this law. I had 5 women break down in tears (face to face) after I helped them get coverage 2 of which had breast cancer. The Denny's Waitress..... have you forgot?

You still don't get it. Helping a handful of people (let's call it 8 million for argument's sake) when the rest of the nation (let's call that 315 million) are paying more for less, you have a law that will destroy things. Benefiting the overwhelmingly few at the expense of the overwhelming many is the absolute opposite of what the government is to do.

It's a good deal and you should thank your lucky stars you live in such an awesome Country.

Healthcare spending relative to GDP is now at 18%. Now whatever number you think it should be..... we can agree it can't be 100%...so where do you draw the line?

If you don't have an Economics background you will never get it.

Go kiss and hug your old underwriting guides to bed.:D

Current State of Obamacare from my agency and clients point of view.

1) I have several group clients who were very glad that the Employer mandate was postponed cause in there case the penalty for non-compliance alone would be more than the owners net profit. They would have been out of business by the end of this year.
2) I have group medical renewals for May & June that we are working on that have 30% to 50% rate increases.
3) I have one employer group (46 ee's) cancel the group medical plan. The owner did not increase pay to cover the loss that the employees had by losing the employer contribution. I did write most of the employees individual medical plans but most have already lapsed.
4) I had another large employer cancel the group medical plan effective 2-1-14 in an effort to save money between now and when the employer mandate goes into effect to help them pay the added cost at that time.
5) I have had countless conversations since 10-1-2013 with my book of Grandfathered plans and the vast majority in Arizona and Georgia would see 50% to 100% rate increases if they changed their plan to a ACA compliant plan.
6) My current plan for me and my wife and 5 children is with BCBCAZ. If I changed my plan to a similar deductible ACA plan I would incur a 112% increase. I do not need pediatric dental or Maternity coverage.
7) I only wrote about 45 new applications during the OEP. The vast majority were sick and older than 40. I hope the HMO plans they enrolled into will work for them. I spoke with maybe 12-15 younger prospects ( under 30) who were uninsured and healthy but despite the subsidy level they qualified for they choose not to purchase a policy.
8) I would say that 8 out of 10 of my employer clients are sickend by this whole fiasco called Obamacare.

"Houcoogster" since you have admitted that you recently got back into the individual health insurance market just before OEP I believe you really do not have enough experience in under 65 health insurance to give an opinion. I like many of the seasoned health insurance agents on this forum believe that we needed changes to our industry. But this so called cure is worse than the disease. You just do not get it cause until OEP you had been in the Medicare market .
The problem our industry had and still has was cost / access. Do you really think that if we make the insurance companies take everyone and disable their ability to ascertain risk that this lowers health insurance cost ? Do you really think that increasing rates by 50% to 100% will increase access to health insurance ?
What in Obamacare can you cite that lowers the healthcare cost in the USA?
Are you aware that the health insurance exchanges were initially created to not work with the existing distribution infrastructure ( health insurance brokers) ?
Do you ever wonder why the government spent $600 million dollars to create an enrollment infrastructure( Health Exchanges) for health insurance when we already had 10's of thousands of health insurance agents.

How about posting your Obamacare client experiences ? Do you have any?

It sounds like things are falling into place. Keep us posted.
Did you grow your book yes or no?
So far every poster said they grew their book. What's the problem?

Don't fall into the thinking of comparing what we have to what we could have had(tooth fairy). Compare what we Had to what we now Have.

Keep this in mind prior to ACA what was the avg life of a IFP policy???????
50% drop off in 6 months....don't preach all this life long IFP policy holders speech to me ...lol......The TURNOVER WAS FREAKIN HUGE DUDE!

How do you know what the turnover rate was. How many IFP clients did you have prior to 10-1-13? This law is a complete disaster for my clients? You say " sounds like thing are falling into place". You might be the only agent on this forum that carries the obamacare kool -aid container. I think you should be called obamacoogster from now on.

Obamacoogster" I have well over 500 IFP clients. The retention is much greater than 6 months. I have never had one client get cancelled by a carrier when they got sick. I never had one client get singled out for a rate increase. I have never had a client call me and tell me there health plan was sub-par. I have had clients with cancer to heart attacks to organ transplants.

There is always turnover in the insurance business, however if you write quality carriers, stay in touch with your clients, and provide a service they will stay with you. 2/3 of my book is Grandfathered..

You really sound like a commercial for Obamacare that one would see on the Rachel Maddow show. You just do not know what you are talking about and every post you submit diminishes what ever credibility you have left.
