Uhc

GR was masterful at slipping "gotcha's" into their contracts. In addition to things they would not cover they also offered plans that, to the casual consumer, looked like a really good deal.

It will be interesting to see what kind of hocus pocus they come up with for 2015 if they decide to play.

Exactly. GR was crap.

As far as the California piece goes, I was in "large group" (1000+) at UHC when they bought Pacificare. They were very open about that they wanted Secure Horizons, but would continue to ignore the California market in group sales.

Agreed. UHC buys up smaller players, but does not really merge them with the main company like a lot of other companies do when they have mergers and acquisitions. Golden Rule's management has an entirely different viewpoint and business model than UHC does for its group plans. GR focused on CHEAP, and managed to get a lot of sales from the uninformed, those without an agent, or those who used e-health or other online DIY services (hint, hint, hint). Now they are coming out with an All-Savers platform, which has me concerned.

The issue is that the plan name usually has "United Healthcare" in it, like UHOne did when GR changed to that name. People think it's the same high quality UHC plan they bought when they had group insurance, but it's not.
