Unanswered Thread

I have also found that the sarcasm is wonderful on this forum. Its always the same people too, the ones who think they know everything when in reality they need to be jerks to make themselves feel better.

Here's what I know: there is nothing illegal about cold calling for Medicare Supplements - and I don't even work the senior market!

I seem to recall someone who posted some incorrect info about that, do you remember them?

Is that sarcastic enough for you?:D

I know this has been asked and answered before, but here goes:

When you get your license, no carrier will know or care unless you were appointed with them to get your license. No one is going to call you to invite you in, you will need to initiate contact and inquire as to your fit within their system. NYL, NML, Met, Pru are somewhat particular and, while they will scan boards like Monster for potential agents, don't wait for your phone to ring. You have to go out and interview them while they interview you.

Each carrier will have particulars about funding and support for new agents. Generally, the major life carriers you mentioned (and I added to above) will cover most of your expenses for a period of time, based of course on production from you.

Usually they will pay for your phone (not always the calls though), office space (usually a cubicle to start), maybe parking, and perhaps some kind of lead generation. Many expenses will likely fall on you, the agent, including postage, E&O insurance, fax costs if you use their fax, and so on.

Again, each carrier will have a different program for new agents, some will cover only the very basic costs (like the $600 a month cube LOL) while others may offer a richer level of expense coverage initially.

The big thing is that you have to produce or usually they will yank it quick. It also often means that you have to participate in mandatory sales events (outside of training) and things like "cold call night" a fun evening spent dialing for dollars.

Your overall expenses, however covered would include:

Parking (if necessary)
Fax costs
Phone costs
Postage costs
Copier costs
E&O coverage
Health Insurance (if you buy theirs)
Cubicle/Office rent costs
Business Cards
Stationary

some charge for computer costs as well, some even charge per sheet for paper to generate your proposals.

Dang, Paul, Rick told me it was illegal for me to do it so I should just turn over the prospects to him since he can do it legally.
