I love my job, but sometimes it can be emotionally taxing! I just got a call from a client I wrote up about 2 weeks ago, it was a husband & wife...the wife is the 1 who got a policy. While I was there it seemed she wanted to tell me something, but didnt want to in front of him....I had since forgotten & figured it wasn't too serious. Well, that same lady just called me, almost crying....saying she wanted to change her beneficiary from hubby to her son & said "I couldnt tell u when u were here but he doesnt treat me too well....and my son sends me many blessings"! So I told her I would & get it to her next week, and she was very very grateful! This just adds to my already cynical view of marriages & how ppl put on fronts about how miserable A LOT of ppl really are with their s/o!

Anyways, my main question is....should I fish around more (maybe there's physical abuse), although I saw no signs of anything like that? Do I have a duty to find out more? OR just change it & be done with it?

No sure what to do....

Better hope the husband is not the owner,.....

In my 14 years I've never onced asked any client- "Would you like to designate an owner?"

Thats the worst thing you could possibly do to your client, unless of course they request it

Get her the change of beneficiary form and be done with it.

Really.....all depends on the need of the life insurance.....whose paying for it are among a few of the factors.....I go into great details with my clients about all options and the best way to set it up...of course most of the face I write is $500,000 plus......

I don't understand what's to be careful about. He already said she is the owner and the payer. She can designate whoever she wants as her beneficiary as long as it's withing the company guidelines.

When one of my clients calls me saying they want to change their beneficiary I send them the form to do so. Or if I'm going to be in their area I drop it off in person.

I must be missing something here.
