When do you quit actively quit pursuing a lead?

I know soem say they never throw away a lead. However, at what point do you quit actively pursuing a lead when you make several attempts to contact them? Especially when you are door knocking? :unsure: i have soem that I have tried to call on 5+ times, at various times of day and then tried to call on the phone 3 or 4 times with no success..

Also, do you call back on no shows?
 
3 times doorknocking. (Each time they don't answer, I knock on a neighbor's door, too.) I leave my business card with handwritten "Sorry I missed you!" After 3 tries, I'll call a couple of times, then they go into my stack of aged leads (filed by zip code+4) to try again at some later date.

On no shows, I'll call back once, usually at the same time and same day of the week when I got hold of them before. But I won't call first, just knock on their door.

(Caveat: I haven't bought leads for quite awhile. But I do get a fair number of referred leads. I try a little harder to reach referred leads. The above is what I did with purchased leads.)
 
I think it totally depends on what type and kind of lead you are referring to. Given that this is the final expense forum, so Ill assume it is FE.

In general once someone has displayed a tiny bit of interest, I dont think its crazy to to attempt 8 contacts.
OK... But I was asking about when you are able to make no contact to test their interest.
 
I'll try 6 or so door knocks and 5-10 phone calls over a 4 week period. After that they go in files and I'll use if leads slow.I also started using delivery receipts about 2 months ago which are getting at least 70% call backs to me .

Somewhere around 5 to 8 times. After that, They will get a call twice a year one in October or November to see if they have any urgency to do something before year end. ( I am now too lazy to do this but I know it works) The other call is 1 week before their birthday. You call to wish them happy birthday first and also politely tell them price is going up each year. Can we meet soon?

It's funny because I've had some call 3-4 times for their " delivery " . But no there not upset . At the very most they tell me their not interested . Some will ask what is it . I'll tell them it's the state regulated benefits you requested with the little card you filled out . I need to drop the info off are you home ? Some will leave a voice mail and say their home .But understand it only works if your going to be working the area 1-2 days . Many times they don't call for a day or 2 . I usually try to door knock 3 times before leaving one . But sometimes if I'm not going to be in the area I'll present on the phone and if it's a sure sell I'll make a 9:30 appt and re door knock in that area .
