Where To Find Agent Appointments With Other Carriers?

Upon getting licensed I went to an LH and SL recruiting seminar. Then I learned of this forum, started reading threads.

I wanted to be completely independent. I don't need an agency feeding me leads, hand holding, weekly conference calls, rah rah meetings, not interested in company trips.

I learned about Todd King,a few others, and decided I wanted to have more options, get paid more with higher contacts.

What could you have said to me to dissuade me from signing up with Todd King ?

I wouldn't have said anything to dissuade you. It's completely up to you how you want to conduct your business.

When I was right out of high school I worked at Home Depot for a while. There was this guy I knew who worked at Lowe's. He talked all kinds of bad things about Home Depot. Employees got paid less. Managers were mean. Lowe's had every thing cheaper. Told me Home Depot was going out of business because a Lowe's was going to be build next to every Home Depot and no one would ever go there again.

I listen and applied at Lowe's. You know what? It was the same shit I just wore a blue apron instead of an orange one.

I pretty much feel the same way about insurance agencies. Go with whoever you want. Just depends on what color apron you want to wear. Regardless of what your rates are, what your contract is, you'll make money anywhere. There is someone in the insurance business that probably has higher rates and a lower contract than you but still makes the exact same amount of money.

it's all just a preference. Work with who you enjoy.

All this forum is, is a bunch of Lowe's and Home Depot and tractor supply store employees arguing about who is better and needing validation that they made the right decision.

There are nearly a million life and health agents in the US. People come on here and take career advice from what? 15 of them?

That's exactly what I thought your response would be! And I agree!

I make the same kind of response when agents ask me how to "sell against" so and so.

I don't sell against anything. I sell for something.

Why would you dissuade an agent? Could of sayings about that. "A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still". And, nothing ever works out with an angry soul.

That's fine. That's the nice thing about this business -- we can all do it our own way and still make a living.

In my experience, the agents who are taking leads, participating in meetings and calls, and trying to earn carrier trips are usually top producers.

Good to know because both of those outfits told me that was the best way to go. They clearly did not want me to know about the true independent side of the business which is what I fit best with.

25 years ago an agent buddy of mine tried to get me to learn the business by signing up with Amerilife in St.Pete. I used to see those guys when I was out selling home improvement. A few times they door knocked houses where I was pitching a deal.

I knew that wasn't for me. I'm not a "company man" type. Always been a one man football team.

Had I signed up with LH or SL I would have quickly realized that I had made a mistake, played myself. It's not about the money it's about being truly independent. I am not a follower. Nor do I worship money.

I'm sure there are guys that went the Amerilife,Bankers,LH,SL route that are quite comfortable.

Do what's best for you.

You know JD.. seeing all this efficiency talk and the various ways people manage their final expense business makes me wonder how efficient their personal spending is. How well they manage their household.

You guys still have cable? Why? With who? Do you go to Starbucks for your coffee?? Nah. It's cheaper to make it at home. But is it more efficient? Having it door dashed would probably be the fastest. But most expensive?

Tell me again how efficient that boat you have is? Or why you have that motorcycle. How about your car. Tell why you need that Buick or Mercedes or Tesla. Better yet explain to me why you got your wife one. How efficient her gym membership is or even worse her CrossFit membership.

If you all shopped around and were as efficient at home as you are in the final expense business you could probably live off of 2k a month and wouldn't need 15k in commissions haha

Me personally….. I'm the starbucks kinda guy.

My experience too. Every IMO I have been with has had calls and meetings. I started my career captive and that stuff was mandatory. It's not been mandatory with any IMO. And the vast majority of agents don't participate on the calls, don't attend the conferences and don't participate on the chats.

And most don't know who they are nor do the companies know who they are.

The one constant I've witnesses over 20 years is that the top producers do participate.

That's not coincidental.

I would bet that GMD's best agents are plugged in regularly and in constant communication with him and the other top agents. Maybe he will correct me?

As I'm sure you realize now after being in the business for so long that every agency operates differently. Carriers don't tell their imo how to run their business. What contracts to start everyone on. Or how many meetings or conference calls they should have.
Any carrier you're with I guarantee there is an agency working with them that does all those things and probably has the same contract levels as those LH agencies.

Yeah I'm sure they said they're the best. You going to tell me Noah that you're not a part of the best agency out there. Or the way you do it is not the absolute best?

Most of these guys that run their mouth here or at the car dealerships,RV,boat dealerships about being top producers are usually chronic…..

Alcoholics
Coke heads
Deeply in debt
Married with X wives
Kids
Insecure
Making or made terrible financial decisions in their life
Online trolls who live in fantasy land

Even funnier is the big hitters, top producers, running their mouth whoever they are are usually laying next to the same woman every night who can destroy them financially because what they make belongs to her !

Lol

He does what is best for him. You see, just like there is no one insurance company that is good for everybody, there is no IMO/FMO that is good for every agent.
