Yahoo or Gmail

For personal use I prefer Gmail but for professional use always use the email address with your domain name. Trust me, it makes a difference!

1. Buy domain name if you don't own one.

2. Sign up with Google Apps Basic. Sign up for Google Apps

3. Set up domain emails to be run under Gmail's interface.

4. Set domain Cname records.

5. Enjoy

Also consider which, if any, smartphone you use. I have an android phone, and the sync with my gmail accounts (apps for biz, gmail for personal) is fantastic. It comes to my phone super fast, syncs all contacts and calendar.
And gmail's spam filtering is terrific - once in a while I check to make sure they didn't accidentally put something in there that shouldn't be, and its all viagra, enlargement, etc.
