2019 Telesales Revolution

If telesales worked so well, why do you see Foresters pulling out of it due to adverse selection and (I believe) persistency issues?

They pulled out due to "high levels of non-disclosure and higher than expected claims". Not persistency issues.

I asked Foresters at a dinner in March this last year to open up to more states as they only allowed telesales in 28 states and the response was the business wasn't as profitable as f2f and they were comfortable where they were. They didn't say it was unprofitable. I think it was purely a business decision to allocate more resources to higher growth areas of their business. To me, they were dabbling in telesales with 28 states and never committed. That's my take at least.

LPN, I started my college prereqs in HS. and yes I've been in nursing since i was 16.

Well, Rob please always keep up that LPN license. You can always find a job and you never know when it will come in handy in the business.

This past AEP I helped out as a Medicare benefits specialist for a national carrier who was just awarded a contract for the next couple of years for retired teachers medical bennies. Entitled teachers were hopping mad, screaming and throwing fits because 40 years ago they were promised benefits for life. Well, times have changed and nothing is "free" anymore, although the MAPD they now have is better than anything you could ever touch with a 10-foot pole on the individual market.

That being said, one retiree had a major stroke during a meeting and a nurse from the carrier (who was there to answer questions) saved her life. At another meeting a retiree had a heart attack and was saved by another nurse onsite...These two were hailed as heroes and word spread to the other upcoming meetings.

Devil's Advocate question...

They've allowed telesales a lot longer than many final expense carriers.

Curious to see what you telesales specialists think.

They allowed anyone to sell over the phone and thus got a ton of people that were clueless

I think 2019 will be a tough year for F2F IMOs. The reason is because there are now MANY Indy agents & IMOs that are doing well with telesales. It's hard for IMOs to say it doesn't work when there's so many out there doing it. :)

It's just like the first guy in history to run a 4 minute mile. Once he did it, someone else did 46 days later. Now people do it all the time. As human beings, the more we see others doing something the easier it is for us to execute.

The 143rd year after the invention of the telephone is the MaGiCal one!

Made it 18 years longer than Sears!

I think 2019 will be a tough year for F2F IMOs.

The biggest threat to F2F FE sales is simply the over-recruitment of F2F agents by the mass proliferation of "Agencies." The agent who can stay through to the end of year two or three will always have a path to a better than average income if he or she has the work ethic (which I would presume is the only way that individual made it to year two and three).

Eventually some other MLM type business will capture the imagination of the craigslist recruiters, and F2F insurance will normalize.

BTW, who might one contact if he was interested in selling term by telephone? Any ideas?
