Agents Need to Boycott Obamacrap

the young and healthy are going to pay the fine.....

$95 a pop isn't going to pull this airliner out of a nose dive. Almost everyone of my 2014 plans is a money loser for the carrier. Did sign up one this weekend, family of 4 with $1400/mo premium for $3500 HSA. They shouldn't break the bank although the wife is a hypochondriac. Spends a lot of time at the doc but never has anything.

Husband has 1 functioning kidney but it has been that way for 50 yrs and never caused a problem.

Cigna will enjoy the premium and probably never pay a claim.

But the ones I have place with Assurant and Humana will spend a lot of carrier money.

Those would be public employees.

We have to earn a living to pay our mortgage and contribute to the welfare state.

Rick

I really do feel like a rube paying my taxes and mortgage. Writing the exchange policies makes no sense. It's just to much time and headache for what you get paid!

If the current trend of more sick than healthy enrollees continues, we may be looking at 0% commissions with our 2015 contracts. I wonder if carriers can legally invoke some kind of emergency self-preservation measure to reduce commissions and any other enrollment incentives prior to 2015?

If it crashes that fast, that would be interesting. Don't quote me, but I believe you'll be okay for 2014. If they're still paying commissions on exchange business next year, I'll be surprised.

If people can pay their premiums on "off exchange" business next year, I'll be impressed. If someone (not mentioning any names), that pats himself on the back with just about every post gets his ass handed to him next year, I'll get a good laugh.

Come on now AC.
So a carrier is headed down because of claims and the CEO says screw the agents we don't want any new business to help offset these expenses. Full speed ahead into the ground.

Obamacare is poo poo.

Rick

Hey Rick, I don't think you realize just how profound that statement really is. This thing has almost all the same characteristics of poo poo.
1. It stinks
2. It's squishy
3. It smears everywhere
4. People leave the room when it comes out.
5. Nobody wants to take it.

Poo is right, we are just making thing worse for ourselves and agents as a whole working with the exchanges!

1) The business has been incredibly time consuming.
2) They pay a salary to unlicensed barely trained navigators to do this. We are required to pay for a license, pay for E&O, pay for and take time for CE. We get a meager commission only if we are able to navigate out clients through this labyrinth of Poo.
3) If we get the applicant approved then we may have to argue for a tax credit or oops the tax credit was less than expected or my child was pushed on Medicaid.
4) They get a tax credit then next year we get the call the government wants their money back, we made more last year than we thought.
5) The exchanges make us look as inept and incompetent as we represent them.
6) When the state exchanges federal funding ends they are suppose to pass the bill in the premium to the clients for the exchange.
7) When this is up and running the exchanges probably aren't going to let us keep 100% of our commissions.
8) We probably will not get compensated as much by the carriers in a couple years?
9) The business probably won't stay on the books near as long as it currently does.
10) The exchange business is three times as much work and the clients probably aren't as good of prospect for cross selling purposes as the non exchange business.

The smart agents wrote people off the exchange gave their clients lots of reasons not to get involved, kept their dignity had less headaches and are making more per hour. I'm regretting writing any of this exchange business! Don't wallow in the Poo write non exchange business for your clients and lets hope this Obamacrap blows up without the Poo hitting us.

I don't think the tax penalty period is going to fund this program. But I don't know anybody that will be paying a $95 fine. Can't really think of a situation where a fine would be that small.
