Bankers Life & Casualty - Final Interview

I have a final interview with Bankers Life & Casualty tomorrow (Thursday). I've done a ton of research and overall am leaning towards "no" if position is offered.

Anyone have any advice on what I can expect walking into this meeting?

The fact that they had us fill out a questionnaire about how much we need to make to pay our monthly expenses / how much do we have currently put aside, really raises a red flag to me about the earning potential.

Anyone used to work there? Work there now? What was your experience like? I can use all the advice I can get. Thanks.

I don't know whether this is of any help, you'll have to clarify with them on today's plans, but way back in the day how they would expect you to get business is start with your friends and family. If you've read other forum threads, you'll see that the general consensus is that is NOT a good way to start. Ask them how they expect you get clients?

Just tell them you're hustlin' everyday and that you're like a boss.

Nice one, wise ass. Haha. Seriously, though, any advice?

Ask about leads and how many counties they will give you first dibs on. They should have a tv lead program with Colonial Penn.

Don't take the lower commissions with no support.

I'm not sure what is considered low. They say the 1st year commissions range from 24%-60%. Now factor in that if you have someone come out and close with you (which, from I hear, happens quite often in the beginning), they get 50% of that commission earned. Renewal Comm. is 4-16%. 75% Advanced Commissions.

This is totally and completely new to me, that I don't even really know where to start / what's good / what isn't. I have the feeling Bankers uses that to their advantage.

I've also read / heard in the presentation, that they make you bang the phones hard. Sounds like a lot of prospecting on your own. For me with 0 experience prospecting, it'll be tough.

Re: Bankers Life & Casualty - Final Interview

Better than NAA, UA, Mega, Mid-West... so you could do worse. If you see yourself sticking with the senior market long-term, it may be a decent place to get yourself some training and hopefully make enough to cover your bills.

Re: Bankers Life & Casualty - Final Interview

What are you planning on selling for them?

Is working in the senior market going to be your main emphasis? If so will you be selling Medicare Supplement policies?

I hope you have checked with the Department of Insurance in your state to see how competitive Bankers is going to be with other companies if selling Med Supps is your main goal.

You will be captive with them and that will prevent you from selling for any other company. If their Med Supp premiums are much higher than other companies it will be a tough sell for you, especially just getting started.

If in fact, you will be selling Med Supps please feel free to give me a call. I can help you get started with your "dog and pony" show as well as setting up appointments over the phone.

I always have time to talk to other agents.
