Cockroach Infestation -- The Joys of FE Sales

A man feebly came out to great me at the first home I ever door knocked. His toenails were at least three inches long. He invited me into the home and led me past his wife (who was bundled under a giant wool blanket even though it was a 90 degree day in Philly) into the kitchen, which was at the rear of the house.

The stench of urine was so overwhelming that I couldn't help but gag.

As I entered the kitchen, trying to make some small talk and what have you, the guy turned around with a milk jug full of what appeared to be apple cider. Then, he pulled his pickle out right in front of me and began urinating in the jug. Apparently, the only bathroom in the rowhome was upstairs and wasn't worth the walk.

I wrote a policies that day for both the husband and the wife for over $2000 AP. Those policies were not taken.

Ahhh, the memories.

Not an FE agent. I do regular life and I got called by a family so I could review their policies, which were written years ago and the agent was no longer in business. Of course, I found more business to write, so I was in the house 3 times. The house, however was infested, I had to put my briefcase on a chair, second time didn't bring a coat, so nothing would come with me. I did't want to make the people feel bad, and I went along their indifference, so I kind of acted as if nothing happened, even if cockroaches were walking on walls, etc. I killed a couple when I was in the bathroom. Obvioulsy these people didn't handle the infestation problem, they owned the house (as opposed to the people in the report) and there were two able men who could have taken care of it (many kids as well). What is really very sad, is to see that we humans beings can become comfortable and used to a problem and live as if everything is OK.

Wow! You must have REALLY needed to go to the bathroom BAD!

Didn't they have any trees in the yard?

I went to see a guy last year. He was outside when I showed up. So, we talked out there for an hour or so.
I asked him if I could use his bathroom. He told me to just go on the ground right there (where we were sitting). :swoon:
I held it until I got home.

As a debit agent, yes, I've seen them running up the walls, yes.

I have run across them a few times out here in Utah, and I will tell you that as disgusting as a roach infestation is, it is far worse here, because they are very rare. I had never seen them out here til I started in F.E. It is too dry and even the garbage dumpsters don't have them. I have to say, I worry more about bed bugs these days than roaches. Those little fellows like to travel.

Here's your video, Reardon:

On a telemarketed lead in Deland, FL:
I went into a house two years ago where they were crawling all over the walls. I learned that they both had social security incomes and were raising their grandchildren. They had no life insurance at all and really wanted a plan for $85 on the husband.

They told me over and over that they could afford it and, having had a recently death in the family, really wanted to take care of it.

Well, I wrote up the plan, and then called an exterminator.
I actually called three and got quotes on fumigating the whole house.

I then paid $300 to have a one-time treatment and a follow-up treatment three months later.

They have still not cancelled their policy, and the lady called me so excited and thrilled. She was really embarrassed about situation but felt she didn't have the ability to do anything about it. I just couldn't stand the thought of babies in diapers crawling around WITH the roaches, which they were.

Wow, you guys are making selling FE NOT sound so promising.

I don't think I could bring myself to set foot inside someone's home if it was obviously a total scroungy filthy bug-laden dump. I would have to come up with an excuse or something.

Does this happen often to y'all?
