Cool stuff, I just put a bid on terminsuranceusa.com- 5 yr old site for $13, plus the $5 to godaddy for auction access.

I almost put a bid on insuranceqoutes.net until I realized they spelled about as good as Peeler.

My plan is to build a local senior site and a national term site...I think your post just gave me a hell of a head start on the term site SEO if I win that auction. Definitely still in my SEO knowledge infancy, though. Taking it all in, and at least here in the ATL, there doesn't appear to be much real competition organically.

Bob is popping up, but other than that, it really doesn't look like there is anybody putting any effort into it. I wonder if that's because there aren't many searches for the terms I'm putting in(?).

How do you see how many searches there are for a term? I see wordtracker, but don't think I wanna spend $69/mo for what I'm doing. Yet, anyway. Anybody using anything else?

UUUUGGGHHHH. I was goofing off with my chica yesterday afternoon so when I did my strategic last minute bid it was from my phone and it didnt go through so lost the auction on that terminsuranceusa URL. Funny how much I'm beating myself up over that, I really liked that name for what I'm trying to do.

I did have another question for the guys who know their stuff on here, I was doing a search for other domains and they have a couple of 10 year old domains. Is two years plenty, 5 enough, or is there a big advantage to having one 10+ years old?

@ Shepnerd: The older the better, but it doesn't necessarily matter. One of the biggest things to consider when you're buying a domain is what the competition is like for the terms you're trying to rank for. You can save yourself the time and hassle of an EMD (exact match domain) is available and/or it's low competition. The domain is only one part of doing SEO and I'm not going to say it's the least important, but there are plenty of other factors that matter. Don't take my word for it though, google "life insurance". Do you see lifeinsurance.com anywhere on page one? Try that with a bunch of keywords. I look at that a lot more because I do a lot of keyword research every week, but a lot of times the EMD isn't usually at the top on anything competitive because so much other stuff goes into it.

The older, the better.

Also, check to see how long the site has been indexed (if u can). If a domain was created 5 yrs ago, but was just indexed last week, you effectively have a 7 day old site.

I use semrush.com free version, Ahrefs.com, google keyword tool, scrapebox keyword scraper,

semrush free and Google Keyword Tool will be fine
