Difficulty in Contacting People to Set Appointments

I've been selling FE for about 2 months and find the biggest negative issue I have is contacting people and setting appointments. I'm buying leads and find that my biggest problem is either getting people to answer the phone or the door when I go door knocking the leads. I'm sure I'm not the only person having this problem but I just can't seem to solve it. When I do get an appointment, my closing ratio is about 35%. I feel I can sell the product....I just can't get people to answer the phone or the door. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, the question is " How do you exactly approach your customers?"

Maybe you can try to make a better approach to people that they would really answer the phone or would open the door for you:)

Maybe these people aren't interested in buying insurance.
If your targeting seniors, you ever see how much direct mail they get? Maybe they don't know what their filling out or returning.

I have a question. I door knock my leads. Im trying to find out if im spending too much time door knocking before i call. Working 25 leads/week seems a bit much. Here's my formula. I door knock a lead 2x before 5:00, 2x after 5:00, and once on the weekend. After that, they go on a phone list. Am i wasting too much time door knocking? Should i make any changes?

It greatly depends on what lead house you're using plus what are the ages on the leads youre getting?

If you're getting ages 50-65 many of these folks are still working. You may have to knock earlier or later in the afternoon.

The worst thing you can do is call a direct mail lead, this is where agents totally screw themselves up. Seniors are trained to slam the phone down in your face even if they sent the card back in. Many times they totally forgot. Stop calling and go door knock.

Nope, knock some more and use the t system. If they aren't home go next door or across the street and tell the neighbors youre there to deliver some important information to their neighbor and you'd like to know when he/she is usually home.

Its simple.

Are you having any success with your door knocking system? If so, might want to stick with it.

After door knocking 3x, I leave one of those "Delivery Notice" notes with my name and number... I left 2 yesterday and got 2 people that called and I set them both for Tuesday? Those things really work well!

They're great to use and effective. There are a couple of guys up here who will criticize you for using these "notices", claiming you are misleading the prospect.
