Back when Oxford had super low rates I had some mailers approved that had the rates on them. I mailed around 5,000 before I gave up. Terrible response.

I figured that most people won't recognize a good rate when they see it because they really don't know the difference in whole-life, term, accidental only, etc.

Had a guy tell me today that he was paying 3 dollars a month for insurance through his bank. I had to explain to him that was an accidental death only policy. Going back in the morning to write him a policy

Why did you not write it while you were there?

I like that post, but there's a part of me that feels there has to be a subset of the population that looks at the rate and says, "yep thats affordable, I will do that [finally]".

I had a client of mine who lives with a roommate that is an ex-client of mine (he lapsed on me and I couldn't rescue it) who is lvl 30 cat person, and he remarked to me the other day that he saw Mutual of Omaha's Livingpromise's mailpiece with rates on it and that they are a little lower, few dollars a month cheaper, than what his roommate had and that he wants to sign up with that plan. I am leery of re-writing him, but he did mention the rates.

Maybe the purpose of posting the rates is to hopefully catch someone who is paying more than what they could qualify for so that it entices them to switch and save.
