Facebook

How difficult is it to use facebook? I've never looked at it but out of the bllue the other day a client of mine sent me an email wanting to add me as a friend on her facebook page....I guess I don't get the idea of bonding with friends via cyberspace and I'm only 32 and very computer literate but just can seem to figure out what the facebook attraction is?

Have no fear, its VERY easy to use, nothing like MySpace.

Think of it like this....you can KEEP IN CONTACT with people (not necessarily "real friends") on a regular basis who most likely already have a need for your service or eventually will. Who are they gonna call? some agent they dont know from Adam or the person they keep in touch with on facebook? Its about getting your name and service in front of people and Facebook does that.....FOR FREE!

Soon it will be commonplace to have your FACEBOOK id on your biz card. "in case you ever have any questions about any insurance matter, feel free to chat with me"
I love the speed of technological innovation. Whats next?

Good idea - you should do it! If nothing else, it'll generate discussion with prospects and another reason to follow up. You could be saying "I'll call you tomorrow to see how the Facebook setup went!"

Nothing is difficult if you take the time to learn it.

I'm not a hater, I've liked them since Swan, Stallworth, Bradshaw days, even took a pic of the Franco Harris statue of the immaculate reception in the Airport in Pittsburgh!!

What I don't like is poor officiating. They missed the Lebron James celebration in the end zone, and basically called roughing the holder?!??!

Even the hardcore steeler fans who aren't blinded by their loyalty agreed about the bad calls during the game.

I love Facebook . . . and the Steeler haters will always blame the refs. HaHa ... that's why we are winners and they are LOOOOOOOSSSSAHHHHHHHSSSSS!!!!!

Combine it with something like Skype. Do presentation style quotes & complete apps by video conference, e signatures...thats the future.

My question to everyone is.....(drum roll)
do you think it would be advantageous for us insurance agents to use our normal facebook account, or develop one for our business alone (like my friend did). I see merits to both, the first would allow people to see us a human being like them, but our content could turn them off, which is why the second might create a more professional image.
What does everyone think, feel, believe???

I have a facebook account. I set it up as a personal thing (mainly because my teenager had one and the best way to monitor these things is to learn how they work) but I have gotten some business interest off of it. I now have personal and business contacts on there and it does establish relationships. Sometimes, when I knock out a really awesome quote or issue a policy that saves someone a ton of money, I'll put that as my status (ie: Tasha just saved someone $1000/yr on their home and auto insurance!). Those status posts generate the most comments, and those comments show on other people's home pages when they go to see what's been going on in the world of Facebook. Yes, it gets your name out there. I've even had clients who see those status posts back me up by commenting things like "hey, you only saved me $700 a year!" or "of course, you guys have the best rates around!" to lend credibility.

Our local Chamber of Commerce has a Facebook page. That links you to all those people who have linked up to their page and you can request to add them as your friend...as with all things, you only get out of it what you put into it.

It's been good for me so far, and I didn't even set it up originally as a professional medium...I was just a parent keeping up with her kid.

Hey, it's free. One policy makes it priceless.

Keeping up with two accounts would be a major P.I.A.

Im going the "personal" route myself with a 100% "professional" image. No personal pictures or stupid messages on my wall. Just my professional pic, my slogan & my info with a link to my website.

I think the last thing people want is to be solicited on facebook or anywhere for that matter. Its probably the fastest way to get dropped as a friend. Be friendly, give good advice, drop a few nuggets of relevant info, thats my line of attack.

So far so good, Im accumulating friends, advising & getting quotes.
