If Money or Family Was No Issue...

Saying deliverance was based on anything even resembling what is the normality of life in the south is like saying Super Fly is based on real life events and represents the normality of life in the black community.

Rural South? What do you think Southern Mississippi is? You can continue to Stereotype the South if you want.. but that doesn't make it true...

Sigh....If the truth HURTS, say OUCH! Rouse, for like the 4-5th time, someone in this thread is putting words in my mouth. Instead of being so defensive....READ what Im saying!

Please point out where I said "this is the norm" as u stated I did?

While u wont find that (which is the WHOLE basis of your comment), Ill add this....Super Fly, while embellished, was based on events/lifestyle that occurred or happened in primarily black neighborhoods, but it WASNT the norm either. But for me to deny it didnt happen (as you are denying events like in deliverance didnt) would be ignorant on my part.

And lemme add another thing about what u said...I DIDNT stereotype the entire south. I didnt say MOST or ALL of the south is like this then or now, I said these events have happened!!

If it sounds like Im a lil pissed, I am....for everyone attacking me for things I HAVENT said or things that I have but are TRUE & they just dont want to admit it. It reminds me of ppl who say things like "Racism doesnt even exist anymore"!

When you say, you wouldn't work the rural south as a whole, you are stereotyping the south and those of us who live here.. If you say certain areas of the rural south, then maybe that would be a little different. Racism exists and it exists on both sides of the fence. But, I haven't found that it exists any more here than in the so called liberal, enlightened areas of the country, especially in the big cities.. I would dare say there are more virulent racists in Boston than in my area.. There are areas of that city that a black man dares not go to at night. And vice versa.

I have read every post you have made as well as all the other times in other threads that you have made similar comments.. The truth doesn't hurt... It is the stereotypical view perpetuated by those that have not lived here for any length of time that hurts. I'll let you have the last word.

Based on your ethnicity, what's more likely to happen based on the statistics:

1) Getting lynched by white, country honkies in rural Georgia, or,
2) Getting gang-banged in a drive-by by blacks in Atlanta?

If u & others have read what I've said, then how do comments that I DIDN'T say or even insinuate, including yours, keep appearing?

I didn't say "blacks can't be successful in the south"

I didn't say "events like in deliverance are the norm"

I also didn't stereotype the entire south by saying "it's my opinion I wouldn't work rural areas in the south".... That's MY opinion, based on my exp.

Maybe u don't know what a stereotype is, let me show u..." all rural areas in the south are dangerous for black ppl"... I never said that, but I wouldn't go trying to find out either.

You mentioned Super Fly, others on here on other posts have mentioned inner city gangs, drive bys, & drugs in black neighborhoods... I never accused them of stereotyping unless of course they did.

I even admitted without being defensive that events or lifestyles portrayed in Super Fly are true, but never accused you of saying they are the norm like you accused me of.

So no, I don't believe some of you actually read what I post, yall form defensive opinions based on your own previous beliefs without actually reading what I'm saying... Otherwise I wouldn't keep being misquoted over & over.

I said that I would give the last word.. and still hope to do so:1wink: but I have to comment on my reference to Super Fly. I used that intentionally as an example of a stereotypical portrayal of the black community that nears little if any resemblance to reality. .Just as Deliverance bears little resemblance to the reality of the South.

Rearden,

No offense, but this has nothing to do with this conversation & is plain ignorant & insulting at the same time.

But to humor you, I'll answer... It depends on where I am at the time. Since its more likely I'd be in the city, I guess #2 would be more likely but only by default.

And what's this have to do with anything? This conversation was about the south & my exp, not all places something could happen to you!

First of all --

The fact -- while it may insult you -- is that there is far more black-on-black violent crime than there is white-on-black violent crime. Spend some time and research it.

The reason I mention this is that your fear of the some Georgia redneck committing violent crime upon you us unfounded, and downright illogical, in the face of the glaring reality that most violent crime experienced by blacks, by far exponentially, is committed by blacks, upon blacks.

Second, what IS your first-person experience, if any at all, on the White Rural South, outside of Atlanta city limits?

I live a full 2 hours north of Atlanta, and work a lot of those rural areas myself. Yes, like I said, racism exists, but the unfortunate fact is that it will always exist in some form. However, I can't recall a cross-burning session, or Ku-Klux-Klan rally, or some great injustice done against blacks, really ever in my life.

I don't really care u gets the last word... I just know I have stated a lot of truths that you nor others have addressed when it comes to what I said & didn't say.

You said I said things in deliverance was the "norm".... I never did & u never admitted/acknowledged you were wrong.

Then u said I stereotyped the south, I never did, I gave an opinion.... But that wasn't acknowledged either to be false.

Others have said 2-3 other things to be what I said... Which were also false.

So this whole conversation has been me defending things I didn't say... Then when that doesn't stick, I'm blamed for something else I didn't say.... All while no one admits they were wrong & I'm just attacked again. Whatever!

Black neighborhoods never had pimps

White rural south never & doesn't have rednecks that do things we've see I'm tv

I'm the racists & you guys all are correct cause u all have way more exp at being black then me!

There... Next thread.

Minority Report:

If I had to work rural New York or rural Georgia, I'd go with Georgia. Can't suggest on any other State but Texas. I loved working NY and Georgia rural areas. While I am a minority (What the heck is that? A transplanted Texan?), I've heard from the North and the South with a incognito ear, and the North was way more predjudice.
