My First Batch of TM Leads. Questions on Best Practices

I just got my first batch of TM leads and some of the basics I know is of course follow the script and call when they jave saod to call them. I started calling them and some of them that I have been able to reach told me they don't remember talking to anyone about life insurance. I even mentioned their secret word and still they had no clue what I was talking about.

I'm not blaming the batch since it came from a reputable source. I'm blaming my inexperience since this is the first time I've worked on TM leads. Any advice? Ideas? Some of your own best practices? I still have to call some of the people that I haven't been able to reach.

What's your script? Could be part of the problem.

More favorable conditions on an appointment is definitely true. However, because I am a knocker I am much more comfy sitting with folks that didn't expect me. Kinda weird but that's how it is.
I do take a,little more time listening and letting them drift when I door knock. But once I get into it, it's on. Unless I see they are shying away. Then drift some more and try again.

Good point. A pre-set is definitely more formal and business like. Just showing up you get more of those random and fun "visits with the folks". If one stuck to phoning, think of all the interesting characters they would never meet (I know, some say that's a good thing). Just looking at the bright side of our modus operandi.:)

I tried the Jane/Steve leads, They sucked for me.
Im in the SF bayarea

What TM leads have worked better for you in your area? Is there a different type of lead that you have been more successful with for FE?

There are a TON of variables to consider and this is just a few!

1. Working leads in some BIG cities is horrible for setting appointments and there are a lot of places that are just not FE friendly.

2. Calling after a day or 2 is not good. Shelf life can be terrible with TM leads.

3. Are you good on the phone? Rate yourself from 1-10 and decide if you should even be calling to set appointments. My first year selling FE, I only Door Knocked DM leads. Eventually, I graduated to calling. Then eventually started buying TM leads from a variety of sources and mixing them in with the DM's!

4. Is someone working with you and guiding you on what might be going on? I use to set appointments in an office back in the Mortgage Protection days and would listen to agents making the same mistakes on the phone, over and over. Even after they were told repeatedly what they were doing wrong!

The problem with being "truly" independent is that you're pretty much on your own and will need to "eat what you kill". There is a learning curve for EACH aspect of the FE sale and the more you put into being prepared, the better off you will be when laying out bucks for leads. That is why a lot of new agent's struggle like hell only to disappear!

The talented sales people that are willing to put forth the extra hard work and time are usually the ones that succeed in this industry.
