Selling term life for big .com?

I'm new to the forum...some interesting topics and ideas...
I've tried some expensive $28 Life leads available from one of the big.com companies and thought it was a little rich for me!
Sold a few but thought they were cherry picking the leads because they have a huge call center doing the same thing as I.
I also have found daytime calls are a tough sell, not many connects as the 6-9pm time. This goes for Health and Life sales.

plus, to top it all off, sounds like they want somebody who is selling already. I am kind of "part time", to say the least.

my question is: if you are selling already and successful, why switch ? I guess the "steady flow of leads" is appealing.

Leads are the life blood for most of us... Life or Health!
Some of the more established agents/advisors have referrals to rely on occasionally but for me Leads are 90-95% of my business. Shared leads are a rough go, so I have several sources to be consistent and successful.

Purchased leads may be what the 2008 internet world is built upon- but- I was classicly trained in a "June and Ward Cleaver" world of= free leads by door knocking.

So, I am not saying my mind is closed to all the wonders to behold in 2008 and the interwebz and telephone sales.... but rather I am skeptical, and with good reason. I have been reading horror stories for 2 years { at least} on this site.

Gee Wally, does your wife clean house & cook in heels and pearls? How often does Eddie Haskell drop buy just to tell your wife how nice she looks?

Well there's your problem.

Stop reading the horror stories.

There are a few things that are needed to be a successful Life agent and working over the phone:
  • A web based contact program that will quote and have paperless apps
  • Exclusive Life Insurance Leads (no cherrying picking)
  • Excellent Training on a system that works
  • High Commisions with annualization on bank draft
There isn't a week that goes by that I don't make daytime sales with Life Insurance. I agree that most sales will be done in the evening. For myself, I call between 4pm-6pm PST and I am done for the night.
Another time that always produces sales for me is Saturday morning at 7am-9am PST. Every Saturday I have called has yielded sales.

I have spent 26 years in our industry and done the face to face and just this year 100% on the phone. There is no comparison to the amount of business I can write- I write 4-5 times more on the phone in a fraction of the time. I spend no money on gas for my car, no longer are in traffic jams for an hour or more, and am able to coach my son in baseball, go on field trips with him and my wife, and have a better quality life.

I will never do face to face again. I had some friends at my church ask me to come to their house to go over some life insurance options. I said we can do everything over the phone and through email and fax. After I finished writing them up, they admitted to me, that the process was so simple!

Anyone that does face to face owes it to themselves and family to take a look at the new technology that can take your business to the next level.

somarco, I was referring to horror stories like the ones you post {you hinted at -above} about leads being not exclusive. { and others do post this as well} The ones where you call them up and twenty other agents are calling them- as well.

I think it's hard to "guarantee" exclusive leads.

Exclusive leads can be great... But if the person goes to another web site and keys in their data, there goes your exclusivity... Especially if they go to a site (lead company) that is a shared sale and one of those they are selling to is another lead company, now you are talking to an angry person on the other end of the line who's now been called 5 or more times in an hour... Plenty of lead companies in bed with one another, but I won't name any names since I am new here!
;)

It is true, you certainly can't stop someone to go to several websites to enter their request. I have worked exclusive leads and shared leads and I will never work shared leads again. Every once in awhile I run into someone that enters info at more than 1 site but it is not the norm. That one is easy to overcome but I don't like to swim upstream when it isn't necessary. With 3 different exclusive lead sources the quality has remained fairly consistent. I write 5K-10K of Life Premium a week with just one source.
