Website Design Is Dead

Nobody on fiverr will do a logo for you for $5?

I'm not too familiar with fiverr. Have to take a look at that site. I like the ratings and escrow account feature with elance. Without the escrow feature...dunno.

I'm almost afraid to guess. Hopefully not three figures.

I should add...other than website stuff, I think I'm pretty good about buying American.

Something's still made in America?

I think most people here will agree that the learning curve is steep. I spend a lot of time after hours trying to learn various things. I'm a "3.5" out of 10 on SEO. I have not dedicated enough time to it.

I've spent the last year or so monkeying around with WordPress and got bit by the bug. So about 8 month back I really started to dig in and learn how configure them, screw with the css and now to develop them. It requires an amazing amount of time.

I give props to anyone who's a true SEO expert. There are a lot of posers out there who can get anyone to page one for "Crofton Maryland health savings accounts plans." While that's great, it's no traffic. The learning curve with SEO to be a true expert is time I don't have.

I'll stick with trying to be a true WP experts. That's actually attainable. I can't lie and say I don't have an "in." My sister owns a web design company, so I can refer to her when I get stuck.

How about website redesign??

I have a number of websites that rank well for certain terms....When i had sites built, there was no WP.

Now as I look into redesigns, I have looked at some WP themes but am concerned about loss of rankings, traffic, etc.. making jump from existing setup to WP themes.

has anyone been through this?

You'll need to contact a SEO expert. I'd like to think that simply implementing a new design would not have an impact on SEO as long as the content is the same. However, that might not be necessarily true.

For example, I'd guess that if you picked some complicated WP theme that made your content harder to find, your bounce rate might go up hence your rankings go down. It's just a guess.

If my site was performing up to my satisfaction - getting a decent flow of leads I'd be inclined to leave it alone.

My advice to old school web designers is start learning how to develop Wordpress themes. I was on the phone with an agent last week - an extra $300 if he wanted "5 more pages."

I'm a bit lost. Physically adding 5 pages is 5 clicks. Formatting the text the agent provides is possibly 15 to 30 minutes. Extra $300? $50 more for a contact form? That's a WP plugin.

Content, the going rate for twice reviewed and edited LSI content is 25$ for 1000 words with the HTML tags pre-inserted for SEO relevance from the very best source I know. 5 pages of pre-written custom content with keyword research should cost 150 bucks installed on the site even in an HTML site, and that's with a 5$ per page markup for time and labor.

For contact forms, ninja forms (personal favorite, but the pro version is 30 bucks) or contact form 7. I like ninja forms because it has a module to store all form submissions on the site AND email them, so you have a backup in case of accidentally deleting it.
