What color shirt?

What color shirt will make people like me? :err:

OK, kidding.

I am cleaning out my closet and thinning down the options. While I don't do as much road warrior stuff any longer I do plan on doing the work vacation thing.

Does anyone have a recommendation for embroidered polos. Branded business casual. I figure if I have a few nice quality shirts I am always good to go.

I worked in advertising for 10 years, and sold my ad agency which helped fund my venture into insurance.

Colors and appearance are very important when trying to send a message. You'll notice almost every successful marketing campaign in history involves red and white. Fear campaigns typically use red black and white. You may have noticed many of the charts, graphs and photos at the height of the covid fear campaign used red black and white, as did the American communist fear campaign, as did the Nazi anti-semitic campaign. Banks and institutions that want you to feel secure with them will often use blue - is another color you will see used.

If you are doing face to face sales, your appearance can affect your sales, as well as colors specifically. Blue and green are colors that make people feel secure, ones that you probably want to wear in sales. Red and yellow are excitement colors you probably want to stay away from. I suggest you do some reading on it.

What about white, tan. brown?

Interesting. I feel they have the opposite effect.

It's just like my friend goes to the door with his clipboard of leads and I stick mine in my pocket . To me the clipboard screams " salesman " when they peak out the window . I tell you what does work . Delivery receipts . I got a 3 rd phone just for those . I put everyone's name on my contact list daily that I leave one with . I answer the phone " package dept this is Paul May I help you " . They say I got a receipt for a package . Miss Sally are you home right now so I can deliver this ? Yes . I'll be there in next hr . As far as a logo shirt I don't want to scream ins salesman off the bat . I know Mungia used to have a wrapped car . To each his own .

Plaid

Basic white is good, especially if Michelle accompany's you. I like her casual Friday look.

I've been wearing a logo branded polo shirt during summer months for the last 20 years. Always white, because in this heat it doesn't show moisture as much as a color would. I've mainly used Corporate Casuals:
(On-Demand custom embroidered polo shirts - Corporate Casuals)

They've always done a great job, but they've changed ownership and don't carry the shirt I like anymore (Devon and Jones D100). I'm looking for another source, but I may just stick with them and try a different shirt. I've bought them from VistaPrint a couple of times. They're ok, and the price is great, but lower quality.

Like @DayTimer, I disagree that it scares people off. ESPECIALLY if I'm cold doorknocking, it lends to an impression of credibility and stability. I remember when FE agents were all wearing ID badges on a lanyard. Now, to me, that screams "salesman"!

Do you wear a coat and tie?

Never. Many times I am in dockers or jeans. With a nicer shirt. I have switched from western boots to Chuckas. I of course dress higher if the meeting dictates.

Blue and green are colors that make people feel secure, ones that you probably want to wear in sales.

I had already figured blue. I had not thought of green but that sounds like a good idea.

I've mainly used Corporate Casuals:

Thanks I'll check them out. I also wand a nicer quality. I think a nicer shirt dresses up my jeans and is still casual.

I don't know about white. I don't think it does much - it's a non color.

Tan and brown are two types of brown. It's an earth color, doesn't do much, it's a bit calming.

I think I used to read in the dress for success type books that I was supposed to stay away from brown suits because they did not project any power or authority.

In regard to blue and green, I was just thinking about that a couple of days ago while looking at t shirts in my closet. I wonder if one might have to be a bit more careful in choosing shades of green than they would be with shades of blue.

When I started cold knocking the mailing lists, I soon after dropped the photo license on the lanyard, created a senior agency logo (actually found one "pre-designed" on Vistaprint), and started wearing embroidered shirts - Navy blue with light blue logo.

As @Markthebroker said, I read somewhere years ago that blues and greens were more likely to evoke trust. The two prior businesses I owned I started through door knocking. I have used navy blue with light blue logo on all three now. I were those polos with khakis. When I'm in a Walmart and dressed for work, folks come up top me all the time mistaking me for a Walmart employee until I turn and they see the logo.

Our people, the Walmart shopper, are accustomed, almost pre-disposed not only to accept, but to seek out help from folks wearing navy blue polos lol.

I'm not saying it is magical because it is not and I do not have strange Svengali-like power over my prospects; but at least I know I'm not hurting my cause.
