What color shirt?

I would suggest blues. I have two types at the moment. This type, and a pinpoint oxford blue. They can be worn with several different color of pants. I prefer oxfords as the collars keep their shape. :)

Blue is strong business color, I think conservative colors make a simple yet forceful statement of your purpose.

I might add, that I also prefer pleated pants, which also help bring more of a business tone to my dress.
I like blue, too. In winter, I wear mostly either a starched white or blue button down Oxford. But not in summer. I sweat a lot in summer, so a white polo just looks better. This is my summer shirt:

I am a woman.
We will try not to hold that against you... ;)... Just attended a funeral of a very dear lady that was also very courageous lady. She had the courage to go to work as a debit agent when there very few in that area of the business.. In fact, she was the first in this area. She not only had to overcome the problems all insurance agents encounter, she had to deal with the old debit dogs and management that thought the debit was no place for a female. She was an excellent agent and moved into management, managing many of those same old debit dogs that gave her a hard time. They went from swearing at her to swearing by her. She was well respected by all of them.
