with his clipboard of leads and I stick mine in my pocket .
Those must be some huge pockets in your pants or cargo shorts to fit a clip board. But if it is working for you, you do you.

To me the clipboard screams " salesman "when they peak out the window.
I agree. I don't mind if they know I'm a salesman. I just want them to know I'm a professional, not some shady peddler.Another thought, and I know you may think this sounds silly, but I kinda want them to know that I am there to sell them something.
Used to, in the past, the books said never wear green... Now they are saying it is a preferred color....I think I used to read in the dress for success type books that I was supposed to stay away from brown suits because they did not project any power or authority.
In regard to blue and green, I was just thinking about that a couple of days ago while looking at t shirts in my closet. I wonder if one might have to be a bit more careful in choosing shades of green than they would be with shades of blue.
What is wrong with that? They are going to find it out sooner or later. I would say most people think "salesman" when anyone knocks on their door any way. I know when I see a stranger at the door, that is my first thought...........To me the clipboard screams " salesman " when they peak out the window .....

If I'm working from leads, I'm holding the clipboard so they can see what's on the clipboard if they look through the peephole or Ring camera. The logo shirt, along with the clipboard showing their name at the top of a stack of several other "interested" seniors, begins to establish credibility, and also intensifies the curiosity factor.
If I'm cold canvassing, I'm only looking for interested parties. If they're interested enough (or even just curious enough), they'll open the door more often to someone who appears to be a professional.
Besides, in some of my neighborhoods, people often assume I'm a detective. (I cultivate that image to some extent to keep the bad guys lurking nearby from getting any bright ideas.) But if they think it's a detective at the door, it sets up a negative tone at best, or real danger at worst. Better they know I'm the friendly "neighborhood insurance man" from jump!

The "problem" of what to wear or what to carry looms much larger in our minds that it does in the minds of the client. I have seen exceptional FE agents that wear a shirt and ties and those that wear a tee shirt and jeans. I have also seen successful agents that carry a briefcase the size of a large suitcase and those that carry nothing but a card in their hand get into houses with ease. And, I have seen those that have the opposite experience. They key is, go with what makes you feel the most conformable and makes you feel good about yourself. Go to the door knowing exactly what you are going to say in advance and then when someone cones to the door, "say it".. Being comfortable your own skin and being prepared with what to say are the biggest confidence builders there are. And, it is confidence, not shirts, shoes or briefcases that will produce sells.
