Windows 7 Released Today, What It Means For Insurance Agents

Aren't we getting into "fool me twice?" I remember the hype surrounding Vista. Again, let's give 7 a year, then we'll see if it's worth the move.

We're not, this is the real deal, the kind of OS that should have the longevity like XP...

I wonder how long they planned on pushing Vista though, I remember hearing Se7en's codename (vienna) back in 2006.

Actually, it's at home, so I can't get at it now. I know it is an HP that cost about $600.

I'll check it tonight.

I assume it will work well with FireFox since I may be putting that on too.

It works fine with FF, but I prefer Google Chrome to be honest.:1wink:

The techno nerd in me always wants to upgrade. The business person in me says 'Why?' For compatibility reasons, I bought a new laptop a few months ago and paid to have it downgraded to XP. XP simply works. There are a few cool things in Vista, but they don't impact me much. I can't imagine windows 7 working much better for what I do.

Oh yeah, I even have a few windows 7 licenses already. Still won't be installing it anytime soon, except maybe on a spare computer.

If someone does upgrade, make sure you have a complete, restorable backup prior to starting.

That's a great point to consider. I do all of my day to day work on XP SP3 just because of that.

Any programming or virtualization I just run Ubuntu.

Practical vs Innovative is something that needs to be considered. One over the other is not always appropriate.

A few days ago I read that microsoft is continuing support
for windows XP, until 2014.
So unless the insurance companies do something drastic, I am staying with XP until then.

I tell you what, it would take a lot to get me to upgrade all our PCs when everything is working just fine. Yes, it seems to have a lot of new "cool" things but I haven't seen anything that is a must have for us. I'm so thankful we never moved to Vista. I made the mistake years ago of installing Windows 2000 and I'll never forget all the troubles. When we moved to XP Pro it was like this huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. I learned after 2000 that I would never be an early adopter again...I am for sure interested in how other people find Windows 7 though.

Vista would not run half of the quoting software that I need to do quotes from my ins companies. I had to also reinstall all new drivers.... There is always bugs when it comes to a new O.S. and Even if I like windows 7, I would wait for them to work them all out.

SOme people upgrade everytime something new comes out. I wonder what percent of Microsofts business comes from upgrades and what percent from new computers that has it already loaded???
