Breaking - UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson shot and killed outside Manhattan Hilton hotel

What's the deal with those?

I had lost a few to those in the past, Not a big number

I rememeber one in particualr she would complain about her med sup premium and everytime I brought up MA she would come back with I dont trust them I cant deal with uncertiantly I dont want to be left holding the bag

And one day she calls me to cancel her supp because she got some self pa plan through a Christian organization she was super confident about

Nothing I could say to make her think twice about it

Jesus is going to win that one every time.

Its a "cost sharing plan", for people who are associated in some manner.

If I remember correctly, at one point it was only for religious based affiliations. Now it can be "lifestyle" based, so there are a few "healthy living" Cost Sharing Plans out there.

The idea is that people who dont do "bad things" stay healthier and its a lower risk pool.

Claims can be denied if too large.
Claims can be denied of they have no money.
Claims can be denied if it was due to a "lifestyle choice" that you agreed to not partake in.
No regulatory oversight.
Arbitration is often in the contract.
etc. etc.

In reality, hospitals are filled to the brim with people of the christian faith. And of all religions.

But for some, they choose to believe the lies regardless of the proof in front of them in their daily lives.

Lower premiums and false promises make people do dumb things sometimes.

That's what I said It is based on available money with no oversight,
There are tons of stories online about claims not paid

How is it you are sooo skeptical from actual insurance companies that millions of people use

For years

and this you are you ready to jump in head first

Not the type of coverage I would want If I had aggressive cancer

A lot of those are being sold through churches. Its hard to compete with someones religion.

Thompson, 50, was stationed at the company's headquarters in Minnetonka, Minnesota, where more than 100 demonstrators descended in April and July to protest an alleged "epidemic" of claims denials, according to the Wall Street Journal.

During the April protest, a group of demonstrators could be seen parading just outside one company building in nearby Eden Prairie as they hauled a wooden casket labeled, "UnitedHealth Denies Care."

I had the same thought about lack of security detail.

If I was worth that much and had that high profile of a job.... Id have at least 1 armed guard with me... especially at an event the entire world knew I was attending.

This guy just walked across the street on his own with zero protection.

Most of the people commenting are just the entitled far left commies that think money grows on trees, want everything free, and would be screaming into a pillow in their mom's basement if it weren't for access to social media.

These people are just angry with life in general and will lash out at anything. They just see an opportunity to jump on insurance and pounce...regardless of what it is. These people just invent stories out of thin air.

It's the bandwagon group attack affect. People see an opportunity to let out any sort of life rage. They see something getting attacked with pitchforks, so they grab one and start attacking too.

Even if they have never had an issue with insurance at all, it's still something they pay for, and people hate paying for anything.

These commie leaders also have troll bot armies out there that are dedicated to influencing public opinion. One of the main tenants of communism is to suck up and control the entirety of peoples healthcare. Because that brings every citizen to their knees and makes them completely dependent on them.

Every communist government does this....China, North Korea, Cuba, etc.

For the vast majority of normal people, they have zero issues with their insurance and it just works as it should.

I talk to many of these kinds of people every single day and am constantly asking them if they are having issues with the company I place them with. You're never gonna ever hear from those very satisfied people in the comments, because why would they bother?

Also, I'm not saying insurance is perfect. But this is the actual reality on the ground floor, despite the fictitious narrative that's being pushed by absolutely clueless outsiders.

Playing devil's advocate here: we should consider both the grievances raised by critics and the potential blind spots in defending an industry with documented controversies. Insurance is far from perfect and is open to corruption, just like anything else where a mass amount of wealth or power aggregates.

Health Insurance companies, including United Healthcare, are often at the center of public dissatisfaction for valid reasons. It's not just a "communist agenda" but rather people are genuinely struggling with affordability and access to care. Even if some criticisms are exaggerated, dismissing them wholesale as "entitled" or part of a "bandwagon attack" limits our ability to seek reform and better our industry.

Critics of the insurance industry are not inherently seeking "free" services but often advocating for better systems and/or transparency. Similarly, while satisfied customers exist, short of insurance agents pedaling these products, they are mostly silent about coming to the defense of Brian Thompson or the health insurance industry. You should take pause and consider why that is.

Insurance companies (and their representatives) should use this as an opportunity to engage with the public and their grievances constructively, rather than blanket discrediting and stereotyping industry critics. It's also a good opportunity to consider how we could improve our industry, even in the small ways that we have control over.

The shot heard around the country, has emboldened a group of many effected by managed care, to speak out in mass and loud. This will cause changes, unknown for now. I see pre auth going away, or maybe original MC for all.
