Breaking - UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson shot and killed outside Manhattan Hilton hotel

The shot heard around the country, has emboldened a group of many effected by managed care, to speak out in mass and loud. This will cause changes, unknown for now. I see pre auth going away, or maybe original MC for all.

Will never happen in a million years. This will be forgotten about in a week. Nature of the news cycle.

Denial rate for Medicare Advantage hovers around only 5%-7% (<---and a good chunk of that is from UHC), and most of those are immediately overturned, and/or were only "denied" due to some sort of paperwork error.

Which is conveniently never mentioned, of course. Why? Because that doesn't fit the narrative.

There will be tweaks to the system, but it will never go away. 55% of people on Medicare are on Medicare Advantage plans, and they poll unbelievably high in satisfaction rates, otherwise they wouldn't stay on them.

Most people jumping in were the blue-hair mafia that will just do or say anything to see private insurance go away. They saw an opportunity and joined in. Anyone remember the major news headlines from 4 months ago? Me either.

I talk to my people weekly....especially the ones that are sick. I have 7 clients with cancer right now. Are you doing okay? Are they treating you good? Are you getting all the care you need? Is everything you need being approved? The answers are always "Yes".... with flying colors.

That's not to say there aren't some hiccups at some rare points, but it's usually a simple thing that's cleared up quickly. That's why the demonization of these plans is the most laughable thing to me, because I deal with many people on them daily.

If they were garbage and were constantly giving my clients and myself issues, I simply wouldn't offer them. Medicare Advantage plans are policed like a hawk.

What's been argued against Ya agent for yrs Is very simple yet he never acknowledges it . Not one agent selling Medicare advantage denies a med sup is better coverage than a mapd . But many retirees can't afford them. As far as mapd go . Every single under 65 was on managed car plans most of there life . On another note let's see if your 400% plus of fpl that were gettIng fat subsidies stay on aca . Premiums will rise 100% plus in 2026 . Those families that were paying $700 for family coverage will be at $2 k plus . That mkt will collapse as many people will go without

There is a bill in the senate right now trying to extend those tax credits, it's tied to the last budget bill of the current administration. This is going to be the first test of where the aca is heading under trump as he is going to control the Republicans on this vote

I've read those extended subsidies cost $80 bil a yr . Hard to see a man who tried to ax aca voting for that especially as republicans control Congress . But we'll see . I know I'm seeing a very subdued open enrollment in aca . 95% of my clients premiums rates the same or actually dropped a bit so I'm letting those auto renew . One nice thing about aca is you get very very few calls during the yr . But one thing coming . Many of these low income people don't file returns . I noticed a few lose if sudsidies due to no tax return filed on health sherpa

Its interesting to see how the focus has shifted from the actual murder to the job the victim had. The general public doesn't understand insurance (of any kind) and most media coverage of the insurance industry is agenda driven. Which makes them easy to demonize. Are health insurance companies perfect? No. Are they the reason the evil institutions that they are made out to be by the general public? Absolutely not.

There were news stories in the immediate aftermath that falsely alleged UHC denied 1/3 of it's claims. But the actual data concerned marketplace coverage for acute care in 2 states in a single year. This was reported by legitimate media companies.

The source of the claim? An insurance lead website:

Many news sites have gone back and edited their stories with this claim. It doesn't matter now. People believe the initial report and will not be convinced otherwise. The public believes there is this magical healthcare system where care is free and not rationed. And they compare insurance companies to that fantasy. But in reality every system has to ration care. People die on waiting list in single payer systems. People are denied care in single payer systems. Try getting a knee/hip replacement in most countries with socialized medicine.

Again, I'm not saying health insurance companies are perfect and do no wrong, but much of the public negative perception of them is based on ignorance of how insurance works, and biased media coverage.

People want "no denials and no prior authorizations."
But they absolutely do not want to pay the PREMIUM for that luxury.

People want "no illegal immigration."
But they absolutely want the roof (deck, siding, concrete pad, framing job, farm help) for $9,275 and not $16,500.

Denials and Prior Auth are here to stay.

Netflix can (and will) make 17 more documentaries about food and health over the next five years attempting to get us to eat more lettuce, fish, turkey, and blueberries -- and less sugar and fat.

It won't move the needle. People *say* they want X. Some choose X. The masses always choose Y.
