Canvassing (Door Knocking) Tool

Louis,

I like to say:

Great minds think like... MINE!

Seriously, I've been running the same idea through my head for a few weeks now and wondering whether to post it. My reluctance stems from the fact that it's just an idea with no proof of concept.

I like the idea. I like it enough to try it when funds allow. My gut tells me a postage paid card will reap a higher response. However it could be argued that anyone willing to pop for a stamp my be a more viable prospect.

The best thing to do would be to test both methods. Might turn out neither is worth the expense or effort but who knows?

His idea is knocking first and only leaving the door hanger when no one answers as the time was already spent. The other difference being I bet your hanger had a phone number I bet a hanger with a BRM attached would pull more though I bet responses would be less for life over health.

That is an idea. Instead of having the back printed with a reply card, staple one to the back of the door hanger. That way, it would comply with postal regulations without the prospect having to trim or tear of the end of the door hanger. They could just pull the card off, fill it out and send it in.

Door knocking and doing door hangers are two different beasts.

If they are not home, they are not home. Why leave something??

Now you are walking upto a door, with what looks like a flier/junk mail. Prospects that are in, are going to tell you "well just leave that with me and I'll get back to you".

In the 10 years I've been door knocking I've left nothing........except for conditional receipts!

Would not have the door hanger in my hand when I walked to the door. It would be in my notebook so anyone that saw me approaching would not see the door hanger. If there is no one home, then I take it out and put it on the door. The reason for leaving it is to try to make some type of contact with people I missed because I would not be canvassing the same street for several months. But, if anyone responded then I could make an appointment to see them. Second reason is simply to get my name in front of more people.

It is kind of like a personalized billboard.. Most people that use billboards don't expect to get a direct response from people that see the billboard, they just want to establish their name in the viewers mind.

However, the idea might not work at all.. That is the reason I am asking for other people's input.

Hey! Was that a crack!? :-)

Actually I'm confident this idea will work on some level. How well it works depends on the execution. (Sounds about like anything we try, huh?)

For instance, the better reason one has to return the card the better chance you have of getting it back. Suppose one added an offer for the free $1000 ADD policy? I could think of others but this is one of the strongest offers that comes to mind.

Another thought is to add a photo of yourself to the doorknocker. This may not increase the response (in my case probably not) but it builds your personal brand.

On a side note, I was considering another use for that BRM permit. Add a line on the card for a referral name. Print up a thousand or more card on "gold" or neon yellow stock. Hand these to clients explaining they are "golden" because for any you get with their name on them, you will give them a gift card, etc.

My reasoning is this: many people freeze up when asked for names. However, we tend to work on "problems" subconsciously and thus, over time, they will think of names long after you leave. Plus, by empowering the client to simply hand a referral card to a friend, you remove any stigma of giving out names naturally attached to such an act. If "something" goes wrong, the client feels relieved of any responsibility because "they" didn't send the card in. And they still get credit for it!

Sorry, I didn't intend to jump in your thread and shout "Squirrel!".

I don't canvas door to door, but i do door knock leads. I leave a delivery sticker when no one is home, and my rate of call backs from them is over 80%.
It seems to me, that the only thing the door hangers are saving is postage. It would be a lot more efficient to mail out 200 a day, but then you save the lead cost. In my mind, the lead costs are well worth the expense, since the return per lead is so high.

Door Hangers - Band-It - Stick-It ® - DieCut

These guys are on to something. How many doors can you leave this behind when you have the original door handle cut. There's quite a few locked screen doors I have found while out an about, the stick it etc. would come in handy.
I was talking to them to design a doorhanger with a perforated tab that they can fill out and send back like a brc (but they put the stamp on it themselves).

Lol. Seen the movie.

My son and I were petting our beagle the other day. A squirrel ran across my yard. He threw his head up, started barking and took off after it. My son and I looked at each other and shouted "SQUIRREL!"

And every time I see a thread that veers off on some wild tangent I can help but think...

Squirrel! :-)
