Down Syndrome

FYI...For anyone who may need this info for as long as it is valid. I was able to write this woman today with Great Western. I talked with the underwriter and since she has had no changes or treatment for Downs Syndrome in 2 years, she was able to get first day level coverage.

I hope she doesnt get hit by a truck in less than 2 years. I would include that underwriters name on the application.

Getting hit by a truck would mean she would die by accident. That's 1st day coverage period.

Not so. The policy can still be contested even if the death is accidental. If the investigation turns up something to indicate the application was falsified and that they would not have issued the policy if they had known the truth, they will not pay.

Any current options, both under 50 years old and over?

I got a call from a lady looking for $25,000 on her non-commutative (deaf) DS daughter age 64. I know I can do GI/modified and maybe SNL Secure Care. Anything else in CA?

Thanks,

Lee

Humana will do Graded(25/50/75/100), but it's $234.90 a month for $25K. That price is for age 64...they do nearest birthday. SNL's ROP is $128.37.

They do a PHI after the app hits UW. Not sure if the parent can do the PHI. Have they looked into a TTY system? Probably wouldn't use it enough to warrant it.

I was on the phone with them so I went ahead and asked about this situation. Looks like the parent could do it if they've got documentation of guardianship. I think the parent would have to do it in most cases whether deaf of not. Many of the people I've seen with Down's can't carry on a conversation and can't speak clearly enough to do an interview.
