I Failed At Door Knocking

I went out to a neighborhood and was going to cold door knock everyone. I froze up and got all nervous and did no door knocking. I feel disappointed with myself. It was a sunny Saturday and many people were home. I couldn't bring myself to door knock anyone. I didn't think I would have this problem but boy was I wrong. Anyone ever dealt with anxiety over door knocking?

Yep. The next time you go out, commit to knocking just one door. Once you do that first one, the second will 1000% easier.

door knocking sucks for 99.9% of the agents who attempt to do so.

buy leads, it is a much more economical use of time.

I think we have all frozen up at some point in time. Haven't you ever done that trying to ask a girl for a date?

If it is counter productive for you don't do it.

There seems to be agents that are successful door knocking however, there are at least as many that are successful that never cold knocked.

Started out door to door cold calling 20 years ago. Now I have evolved into more of working off referrals, direct mail & retail marketing. To me it's best to have different ways to market. I'll get burned out on just one way of marketing.

Everybody is like that until you get a few doors behind you.

My very 1st door I ever knocked was horrible. Middle aged guy answers with no shirt on and on the phone. When they are on the phone and answer the door at the same time, that's as bad as it gets.

I actually sold that guy though. Beginners luck. It was just the right door.

I fail everyday in this business in one way or another. But that dont matter, what matters is how fast you get up try again.

The hardest door to overcome when door knocking is your car door. Get out of your car, and your half way there.

One thing to remember when door knocking is 'They do not know what you are supposed to say' So you can mess up your presentation worse than you ever have before, and they probably would never know. I remember years back, a band I was in was playing at a small club, and during one of the songs I took a guitar solo. I messed it up so bad, I was sweating! I was absolutely freaking out in my head. The band knew, I knew, but when I looked out into the crowd, the mosh pit didnt stop, people were still banging their heads, and hands were in the air. Nobody noticed the mistakes because nobody knew what the song was supposed to sound like.
And even if someone does notice, laugh it off. You will probably never see them again.
My suggestion is, go out right now and door knock one door, and come home and celebrate that you door knocked someone (even if they dont answer, at least you knocked on somebody's door).

One day is not enough to brand yourself a failure.. The key is going out and trying again and not giving up.. I have been in the business 42 years, started out canvassing door to door.. Have done it off and on ever since and I still have days that it is a struggle to walk up and knock on the door. There are those on the forum that do not believe canvassing is effective but I know it can be . However, it is a very exceptional person that does it with no hesitation and sometimes I think those agents that say they do are lying. It takes a courageous agent to do it day in and day out.. Just remember courage is not the lack of fear, it is acting in spite of fear.
