Is it seriously Possible to be a Part-Time Agent

It is not a good example. I have worked in this business on full time and a part time basis. You can be part time and certainly make enough to make it more than worth while if you are willing to work. The Primericas of the world are far removed from an independent agent choosing to work part time on his/her own. Last month, I banked $5K on a part time basis and no down line. This month, it has only been a little over $1K but I have taken most of the month off to stay home with my wife after she had a hip replacement.
I was implying part-time as it relates to the MLM world and wasn't making a blanket statement against the entire insurance industry.

As has been said, the insurance industry has different levels of MLM. There are several successful insurance agents on here that started part time. Two of them have posted to you in this thread...DayTimer and HoosierLife. Rearden is another.
There is a huge difference between having a split commission compensation plan and MLM.

Not sure what you consider a split compensation plan. I do not split comissions with anyone.. but with some of my contracts I have an upline who gets an overwrite on my production..

MLM is not bad in and of itself. It is simply a form of compensating a direct sales organization. Most of my contracts go through an IMO. That IMO gets paid by the carrier whenever I get paid by the carrier. It is an MLM arrangement. The main difference between what I have and what you experienced is that my FYC avg is above 100% and my up line gets 25% to 75%, whereas you were getting 25% and your upline took the other 100%.

I also have a few contracts "direct" to carriers. In those cases, there is typically a regional vice president, not unlike an RVP at Primerica, who may or may not get compensated for every policy written, but who very likely is compensated based on the production of the agents contracted to the company in his or her region.

If you're in sales, someone is likely paid something for your production. In fact, in the world of capitalism, everyone gets paid because someone somewhere sold something to someone.

Again, their is a huge difference between a multi-tiered compensation plan and "MLM". On the surface, the two appear to share some components. Then again, all industries share components. I dare say very few independent offices would survive on a net gain of 14 policies annually.

So then it is your turn to make the case that it is not MLM. You can keep asserting it, but you need to put forth an argument or there is no reason to talk with you any longer. I do feel bad for you, because this is a great business, and you are stuck running in place because of a bad experience. I don't know what, if anything, you are doing presently to make a living, but if I were you, I'd focus on whatever that is, and if it is nothing, I'd focus on finding something.
