Mandate Delay = Savings?

If the mandate is a motivating factor, then Barry is sabotaging his own law. Fewer enrollee's for 2014 and as BlueD pointed out, cancellations.

I wonder if the ads with Magic will continue to play, encouraging youngun's to sign up?

Obama/Democrats dont want to take another "schelacking" (as he called it) in the midterm again. Republicans pointing out that over 30 million people will have to pay a penalty to the IRS is very damaging at election time.

Today President Obama threatened to veto the latest "doc-fix" bill because it contains a provision that would delay the health insurance purchase mandate for 5 years.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says that delaying the mandate would save $170 billion dollars. I don't understand this. Save $170 billion for whom?

Excerpt:
"Reworking the (doc-fix) formula will cost $138 billion, according to the Congressional Budget Office. But delaying the ACA mandate could pay for that, and then some. That measure is expected to save $170 billion, the CBO estimates."

We're in the twilight zone.

Because if they did sign up the subsidy or Medicaid cost would b more than the penalty collected

If the penalty is waived (not collected) more people would sign up for subsidized insurance and Medicaid, thus raising the government's expenditure? Is this what the Obama Admin is thinking? Twilight Zone indeed.

I say scrap the whole damn thing, save 2 trillion less the billion spent on advertising, less the 500+ million on a crappy website and call it a day. Then pass healthcare reform that really attempts to lower healthcare cost and health insurance, but I forget the insurance industry does not really want cost to go down. Maybe they will settle if they fear single payer system.
