RE: The Young Will Pay More Than The Old For Some Health Insurance Plans

ValuePenguin, thanks for that example of how subsidies can cause the out-of-pocket premium for some younger people to eclipse what their parents pay.

That Silver plan example where the 60yo pays the same out-of-pocket premium at the 27yo is an eye opener too. I can see this future conversation between Father and Son...

27yoSon: Hey Dad, my $144 premium is the same as yours!
60yoDad: That's right son. And if you plan your life properly and not make much money, you can get a bigger subsidy every year of your life, like I did!

In reference to the Family glitch would it be better if the Employer coverage excludes the offer of coverage for spouse & kids? But doesn't children have to be offered coverage?

Want to know more about new Co-Operative Health Plan companies in each state that will have one? They have formed national association that's known as NASHCO. (National Alliance of State Health CoOps) Here is the trade association's website:

Thanks AC. Works good but I don't think they have smoker rates put in yet.

For some reason, the Kaiser and also the UC Berkeley premium calculators never have included the "smoker?" question. Maybe these California entities don't realize that there are still smokers in America.

However, the quote-engine website owned by forum member "Value Penguin" does allow you to include SMOKING in the rate calculation for every state that he's been able to add, to this point.

Actually it (Kaiser) does give you the smoker/tobacco question and I ran it both ways and there was no change in premium.

Some states aren't allowing Smoker Rate-Ups. Also, some companies aren't doing smoker rate-ups. You may be in that fold, HouCoogster.
