When a Lead is Wheelchair Bound

The longer I am in this business the more I feel that busting your butt to try and get someone bought preferred is often times the wrong thing to do.

I am starting to use just 2 or three companies the vast majority of time. As of late I have been using SNL, KSKJ and Gerbers. Most FE clients don't even know the difference between level, graded and GI. I always tell them what they are getting and why, and then move on to the next one.

Yes you might get replaced; but you also will have more time to write new business.

I agree 100%, .....................

For those that have years of experience, I'm curious about something:

As Independent agents, if we are looking for niches and only pushing customers with certain conditions to certain companies, wouldn't that eventually catch up to the company if it's not off set with other business? It seems they would have to change their underwriting or have a price hike otherwise they'd just lose a lot of money.

That's a good point. That's why many of us pick a go to company that will take a wide variety of health conditions. But these companies spend hundreds of thousands of dollars designing these applications to accept the health conditions their actuaries have decided are acceptable for their product.

But I would imagine you are correct, if every FE agent out there only used each carrier for their worst health niche, adverse selection would catch up. That's why you see companies with liberal UW eventually raise rates.

But to be realistic, I would venture that 90% of agents are not underwriting as effectively as possible for clients.

I consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to carrier UW, but EFES has only gotten better since Ben came on board. He has the best cheat sheet that I have seen or used, hands down. He's always updating it too when a new carrier comes up or a new niche is discovered.

Plus our group chat has a few walking/talking pharmacies. Shout out to Tommy. That guy knows more than most doctors on health conditions and prescriptions. Efes has the best group chat I've been a part of!

You are absolutely correct. At one time AmAm accepted clients who currently had cancer that had not metastasized. Some brokers ONLY put that business there, and eventually that exception was removed.

Its also the same reason why GI business is not profitable for the carrier when brokers are involved. If there are not enough healthy people to offset the risk, its a money loser for the carrier.

Gerber will eventually cut off brokers. Ride the wave until that happens I guess.

It's just the funniest thing. I have never understood the tribalism around here. :D

I love how you think Gerber will cut us off. They have people buying and lapsing Grow Up plans, and/or keeping them so long and making a profit to cover the GI's short fall.
