Who Would Have Guessed

Insgal c'mon...you know better...for those who are SUBSIDY eligible...its just like MA....LOW monthly premium, copays for everything, high out of pocket...has a stated network. What could be more like MA...?

And FLM, you are dead on..for the upper middle class, this law is remarkably unfair...BUT to those that own businesses and hide income and writeoff everything, many of those types are gaming this law...

I don't really think a family of 4 with 2 wage earners making $100K can be considered upper middle class, that's an average income for a household these days where both parents work full time.

I've focused my attention on helping those with very high premiums save money this year, I had little or no interest in dealing with the subsidy-based plans because of the way it was screwed up.

I may be more open to subsidy-based apps next year, it is a matter of whether it is worth my time and I will have many clients permanently coming off their current plans so will need help.

If the administration wants to fix this, let them do away with clawbacks, just base the subsidy on the prior tax return, period, unless there has been a major change downward in income.

I fail to see how that would change the financial aspects of the law negatively in any significant manner and would begin to make it equitable.

It's all a game, and the law creates perverse incentives like:

The waiter/waitress making $100/night in tips that are not claimed.
The Senior who will take a pass on taking social security until medicare.
The 2 clients this past week who turned down a job in fear of clawbacks.
The millionaire who controls distributions better from their portfolio.
The working poor who "plan" on making more money this year to get to 100% FPL.
The person who will turn down overtime to come below 87% CSR threshold.

Yes, the law helped a lot of honest low paid working Americans. But it also created a whole new class of gamers. Love thy neighbor who games the system better?

I don't know of any advantage plan that costs 900 bucks a month with a 6k deductible.

In regards to cost, have you ever taken a look into how much $$$'s the MAPD plan receives from .gov on a per enrollee basis?

There are no free lunches anywhere in the known universe.....

Plenty of mapd plans with a 6k+ max out of pocket, as well......

ER is free. You just have to put up with the queue.

True. Everything is free if you refuse to pay the bill, and have no assets for collection. Another way to get something free is to vote people into office who will make laws stating that other people should pay for your costs.

And then there are those crazy people who feel they should work hard, save money, and pay their own fair share. tsk, tsk, tsk.

:1rolleyes:

I'm going to get counseling for this affliction, as soon as I can find a shrink that works for free.

Heathguy nice sum up of what I have seen with this law. People with millions in assets and limited MAGI getting nearly free insurance. While hard working families, with few assets making 50-90k get very little or nothing in way of help on insurance premiums. Loophole has to be closed in name of fairness. And there are others. Overall ACA has helped poor, low income workers though. It's a shame they didn't better include the agent force in the process. Carriers were part of this "conspiracy" to get rid of the agent. They have been trying to do it for years with .com's and 1-800's. Carriers stocks hit all time highs CEO's rake it in Agents now work for peanuts ! NOT ME anymore !

There is much more nobility in my mind about the minimal wage worker working hard everyday at their low paying job getting an Obamacare plan and subsidy...good for them.

I would much rather sign up 100 of these folks, verses even 1 family that owns their own business, but they realize they can writeoff every little thing, but in reality make a boatload of money, but game this law.

There is something truly wrong with that.

Spending other people's money is Noble? I'm glad that your burden for the poor is finally getting some attention through legislation. I feel so much better now.

I wrote subsidized plans on clients that have more $$ than they can spend in a lifetime, and have nice clients with families that are trying to get ahead in life being forced to pay $1000's more per year for coverage.

I'll tell you what's fair comrade. If all of the people that believe this legislation is good, would pay for it, and leave everyone else the hell alone.

We all made money selling the shitt, but that doesn't make it right. I think you got confused that some how "assisting people" made you a rebel. Doctor's that treat gunshot wounds aren't gangsters, because they "helped them". They're just providing a service that they're qualified to perform.
