Door Knock Vs. Phone Calls

Quite a few actually. My office is in a 39 story building next to the court house and it's jam packed full of attorneys..........but insurance agents? Almost none!

I like the idea of having no lead costs. To the casual observer, your approach doesnt seem to be targeted to FE, but I assume that is your market? IF not what neighboorhood do you target?
It seems to me that you need to be carry alot of apps and rates for different scenerios. or do you only use 2 or 3 companies?
It would be interesting to ride along and see how you develop the sale from each of the 3 reponses.

That's enough to get the conversation started. You will get 1 of 3 responses:

1) I'm not interested......
2) I don't have any coverage/not with those companies
3) Really?

With all 3 responses I'm in the door.

Embellish a little more and save them up to 80%
Tell us how much you really save them.

If you came to my door I would say..."Really up to 75 % now prove it."

In all fairness, many attorneys don't make crap...their UNIFORMS (some people call 'em suits) might fool you in to thinking otherwise.

Also if comparing I/Agents to Attorneys it's a little unfair to compare dudes at the court house only when a great % of the 728k lawyers in America live hand to mouth in the same strip mall WITH insurance agent.

We can look at the TOP of both professions and find people doing outstandingly well. Even with the lower barrier to entry there are only about 411k insurance agents, compared to almost twice as many attorneys but OUTSIDE of JOBS.....most attorneys do NOT make much more than the average full time agents.

*Despite what anybody says.... the truth is only about 15% of Americans bring in more than 100k and that INCLUDES the ballplayers, actors, CEO's and 'stolen' fat incomes from Unions, Cities, Counties and States.

When one 'breaks down' who's left earning that type of money....
We must look first at business owners...and as I said outside of 'working' a JOB (where it's a SALARY).....
attorneys are s/b/o just like i/i/agents.

On equal bases being a full time i/i/agent vs being an i/attorney isn't even close in terms of overhead to break even let alone an easier path to 100k.

Both professions have to 'chase' clients but i/i/agents can create clients MUCH easier, cheaper and way more reliably than can an i/attorney...not even close.

I/attorneys have so many more obstacles to overcome and cost to maintain it's not even funny.
Because it's so easy to get an insurance license, you have more people that 'play' at being an agent but when comparing 'real' agents trying to make a living with attorneys at the same level....it's much tougher for an attorney to maintain a 6 figure personal income.

We hire employees or 'help' IF we want.....a lawyer can almost NEVER make 100k w/o employee expense.

We can make 2k a week at home in out drawers, EVERY WEEK
Lawyers CAN NOT DO THAT

A i/lawyer has to attend undergrad and law school and pass the bar just to START to beg for clients......
they run a 'sales' organization just like mine....bring in no clients you don't eat, period. Where's his residual, again?

A i/i/agent using the same 7-8 years 'properly' could be 'moderately' building a STABLE sustainable income before that i/lawyer was even licensed to chase his first client.

Most Divorce, Bankruptcy, Slip n' Fall guys are only able to 'pimp' their clients ONCE a real 'G' agent 'pimps' his same book for years and can do it from the house....

This isn't even a fair contest......
I can 'learn' enough about a 'new' area of my profession this w/e and be competent enough to make 100k by Labor Day 2013 for SURE......Probate attorneys will NOT be making dough suing Disneyland next year.
Point being attorneys are more stuck on a 'bad horse' or 'playing' a bad hand, whereas any i/agent that needs to 'pivot' to make his money can and does so with ease 'cheaply' (just ask the number of guys that kissed health goodbye w/o the nervous breakdown).

Guys/gals this business, when compared FAIRLY to others is the chit.

Please tell me about another 'real' business where a schmuck can start this Monday, be professionally licensed by this Labor Day and realistically join the top 1/3 of earners in the biggest, baddest country on earth (it only takes 65k to be in the Top 33%) by the following Labor Day?....

100k goes 'farther' than 85% of Americans can see, my friend.....

And trust me more than 15% of Americans are having a 'good' time in life....buying all kinds of crap so WE aren't has POOR as we let on, the cash registers don't LIE.

Ok, not sure where all that came from?.....anyway, I don't really care what they are making.....I only concern myself with my paycheck......

Back on track.......I work in an area where debit agencies are still huge. And I mean huge.......their policies are way over priced, and in most cases the folks they sell to really have no understanding of what they have. I replaced an ART last week, and I replace GI's all day long. I work in poorer neighborhoods and I don't classify myself as an FE agent. Sure I sell FE policies, but I also sell term, if the need fits.

No one has EVER questioned the "save up to 75%" and I don't view the marketing statement as any different to "15 minutes could save you 15% on car insurance" or "customers who switched to Allstate saved an average of $806 per year"

And yes, I have saved folks up to 75% especially if it's within the 1st 2 years of their policy and from one of the debit agencies.

My approach is simple, stimulates an interest and then the rest is down to me. You would be amazed at the responses I get......

My goal is to place them in a better situation than what they were before I spoke with them.......if I do great. If not I tell them that and we part as friends......simple stuff.

Good stuff cds251 (any relation to c3po?). Wish I had some of those debit agents here. I didn't know they even existed anymore, outside of Florida retirement communities.

An older grey-beard insurance agent once told me "you can't say the wrong thing to the right person".

I am curious to know what my fellow final expense insurance agents think about doorknocking as suppose to making phone appointments. Which one do you prefer? I'm curious to know what you think. Thanks.

FWIW, in my limited experience (2 years) in FE I know several female agents, and NONE of them did anything but door knock while running leads.

The phone is a waste of time in FE, IMHO, it just doesn't work.

What's your response when they say they're not interested?.....how do you get in the door then?
