Personally I welcome women as well as minorities (who would have an equally difficult time here) but few come and even fewer stay... here... and in the industry as a whole.

Then you should welcome me. I am a red-headed, Caucasian, male, Republican, Irish, Scottish, Anglo, Germanic, American Indian, English Speaking, Christian, Right Handed, married, heterosexual, Native American.. How many of us could there be?
