Old Settlers Agents

No spin zone here dude.

And It's not name-calling. It's asking legitimate questions about writing a company with the lowest commissions in the independent FE agent market.

With your 18 years experience and your skills and tools, seems like you're allowing yourself to get bent over and write for 100%.

Don't you feel your worth more than that ?

I mean Greg with Senior Life starts brand new agents at 90%,right ?

Again,this is a legitimate question.

Hope you sell a bunch today.
I really am having a hard time wrapping my feeble mind around this discussion and why you are taking JD to task over his choice of companies. There are many reasons a person chooses to rep a company other than commission. For me, people relationships are one of them. I would rather use a company that teats me as a person rather than a number because usually that leads to better communication and you have a chance of getting things done that the other companies would not even consider. My favorite company of all time was a company called National Savings Life. Was on a first name basis with almost everyone in the HO. We were able to have input on product development, etc. that most other companies would not even consider. They paid fair commission rates but were not the highest.

Another company was Settlers Life pre bankruptcy. They had great agent service and some of the Huff-Cook plans filled nice niches even though they didn't pay very high commissions.

If a person chooses a company simply for high commissions, so be it. But I prefer communication, ease of doing business, and great service over 10%-15% commission rate. In long run, I made more money that way. For example, had I been using Trans, I would have stayed so torn up over what I have heard you fellows say about them, it certainly would have affected my production in a negative manner.

BTW, I seem to remember when Settlers was your goto company and they certainly did not pay the highest commissions available.

It's still NGL but they have a new TPA for service. I think it is EXL?

But I've noticed no difference in their customer service from when they were open. Terrible then. Terrible now. This new TPA does answer the phones quicker than NGL did.
Sorry to yank the thread back to it's original topic! But I just wanted to say that I got right through to a Settlers customer service person this morning! The last time I tried (which was right after the transition to the TPA), I gave up after being on hold for nearly an hour. Yes, it's just a call center, and judging by the accent, it's probably in the Philippines. But the rep was courteous and professional. Now, let's see if she follows through with the items I asked her to mail the clients.

So you would take a 20% haircut ?

Does you current lineup treat you well, pay you the highest commission in the marketplace ?

My upline wants his crew to get contracted with the highest commissions in the business.

RNA,Am Am,LBL,Moo……all decent companies with competitive everything for clients, agents at 120%.

No complaints.

Settlers paid me 115% with very good renewals and many months I earned bonuses based on production.

I'm not writing for less than that.

I don't know why anyone else would.

I loved Settlers back in the day! I never visited the home office, but the relationships I built there over the years served me well even after NGL took over. I had lost my contract with them when I moved to Texas, since they weren't admitted at the time. But on the very day they were approved to write here, I got a call from one of the CS reps I had known for many years because she knew I'd want to get my contract back. She was always great! I miss her!

(The company continued to be great to work with even after the takeover as long as NGL mostly left them alone. But when they started tinkering, it all fell apart within a few short years. Not the first time I've seen that happen.)

I've developed relationships like that with both my primary and secondary carriers. Neither of them are always the best choice for the client, so I will write other carriers. But those others only get less than 10% of my business. My number one and number two get the rest. The loyalties we've built (in both directions) really make a difference.

In some cases, yes. Unfortunately I don't have any companies left that prize relationships like they did in the old days. One that seems to is Mountain Life but I haven't had them long enough or written enough business to know for sure. SNL seems to be a company an agent could build a relations ship with. However, the fellow that was their leading agent for about 4 years in a row does not now list them among one of his top five companies.

In the case of NSL, I made more money than I would have with a company that had a higher contract simply because I enjoyed working with them and they would bend over backwards to see our business was issued much like what JD says about KSKJ.

Did you sell the cancer plan and the Huff-Cook products?

It is name calling. And I'm not getting bent about anything.

I've told you a dozen times, at least, that I make more money writing KSKJ.

why can't you understand that very simple concept

you keep saying you ain't doing this and you ain't doing that.

I get it! You "ain't doing".

Maybe if you would do then you would understand?

Doubtful though.

Let me try.

Noah, JD makes more money writing KSKJ because he can get more policies issued Level with them with a lower premium than he can with a company that pays a higher commission.

Not just that. But yes.

My placement with KSKJ is 98%.
My persistency is 94%
My 4 yr persistency with them is 90%. That's as far as they track.

So it gets issued and stays on the books.

And because the rates are so good I get even more referrals which adds to it too.

JD i asked you what made you place any business with snl ?Outside direct monthly , credit card or graded zero use for snl . So I ask what made you write 3 snl . You should be able to write 80% of your business with Kskj .
