Starting With Securus

So coming completely fresh into the insurance world did you find it to be an easy transition?
How about training? did you just go off of videos ect on how to sell the product?

What did you find to be the hardest/easiest in starting your new venture in FE?

I'm going to try to move this thread into a different direction here, because I feel like it has become this huge defense of Securus when that wasn't the original intent. I feel like there is a ton of animosity between the people that are on this type of lead program and those that are not.

I have been selling insurance for a total of 6 weeks. Obviously my loyalty to Securus isn't strong. I see it as a partnership between two companies. I have started, bought, and sold a few businesses in my life. I definitely didn't get lured into "joining" Securus by promises of riches. I am fortunate to be in a position that I am financially secure and don't need to be lured by promises of riches by any recruiters.

While I was in the process of selling my last business I spent countless hours reading these forums in and out. After a lot of consideration, it seemed to add up that working with an IMO that had a strong lead program seemed to be my best option. EFES and Securus were the leaders in this category. Therefore I interviewed both and decided on Securus, mostly because the person I contacted with Securus offered me a higher contract. Keep in mind I contacted them, I wasn't "recruited".

I understand that there is more to the insurance world than these forums. However, this site is the best resource out there to anybody that has never been in insurance before. Where else can you get the opinions and advice of thousands of producers in a day?

After doing a ton of research, I came to this conclusion... It would cost me more to do my own mailing to get a steady flow of 20-30 leads than it would to team up with a lead company/IMO. If I were in an area that had better returns, then I would be on my own in a second. This topic has been debated long before I joined these forums and I don't want to re-hash it. Obviously I believe a lead program is in my best interests.

I started this thread to give people some insight on my experiences (good or bad) with Securus as I started my career partnering with them. It is a popular topic on this forum so I thought the thread would be of help to anybody that was thinking about working with them. I find it amusing that I've only been doing this for such a short period of time. Things could take a turn for the worse and I may have an update with some bad things to say about them.

Again, thanks to everybody that contributes great information to this forum. If anybody does want further information on my progression w/ Securus, I'll be glad to talk. Otherwise, all I can say is that everything that I have represented about Securus and how they have dealt with me is 100% true.

Ben, you have done exactly what you need to do, at least for the moment. There is no one IMO that will be a fit for everyone anymore than there is one insurance company that is good for all clients.

Other than my time with Primerica, I started with a captive agency and learned much of what I use today. They gave free interest leads and I sold a ton off of them. I just finally figured out I could get the leads myself and come out way ahead, especially when factoring in the renewals.

I would love to hear of your progress as you go along.

I have a couple of questions:

1. What are 2-10's?
2. What is an old BRM card and where do you find this? Is this the same as a returned lead card?

Thanks.

Ron

Not to mention, Securus 2-10's are something stupid like 4%, whereas you can get upwards of 10-12%

You can tack on another $4,000-$5,000 there alone

This is where Securus mgr's make their money.. off your 2-10's

Bring a old BRM card with you and if you knock on 25 doors a day- you'll make 2-3k a week.. easily..

2-10s are policy years 2 through 10... He is talking about the trailing or renewal commission an agent receives for those years.

Not sure what a BRM is. Never heard that expression.

Just learn as much as you can from some of the best there like you plan on doing.

For me, I like to be close to the home within an hour b/c I have two young ones and wife with an inflexible schedule. I can hit areas with no lists like Rancho Cordova where the people are more receptive or I can work a list and ask for them by name and ask them why have they not filled out a form yet and sent it back etc...

You and I will probably work 32-40 hours.
I know I will not hit below 12k in AP but let's just say we both hit it on the nose.

At the end of the month our bank accts are going to be about $4k different.
Gas, lead cost, less comm. I will not fill the stress of trying to catch up on the leads that I paid so much for either that I couldn't get a hold of for 25-35 days.

For now you are good and you may be the next JD. I tried it the JD way also and did well but I wanted to do it my way.

You write 12k per week?
